Style Spotting: Navy

Clearly I’m obsessed with stripes (it’s a problem, I know). Last week, I was on a mission to wear my new stylemint stripped tee so I put together this naval-inspired look just to show it off. Nothing was going to stop me, not even a day full of client meetings so I dressed it up a little with these high-waisted pants and my new favorite statement necklace (that I snagged at a great deal from my pal Tina’s sample sale).

I’m still trying to get the hang of this outfit posting thing so please pardon my slouching and scrunching on my pants (note to self: make sure to take pictures in the morning!). Also, thanks to my co-worker Kelly for not totally mocking me when I asked her to take pictures of me. (I’m sure some of our next door neighbors think I’m crazy).

Style Spotting: Spring Looks from J.Crew

Last week, I found this lovely surprise in my mail box.

Nothing like a little reward to get me pursuing the J.Crew site (and in-store while working on a piece for The Voice-Tribune! More on that later.) for new spring looks. Thought I’d share some of my most favorites.

I’m noticing that all of these have a Parisian feel to them. Guess i’m in one of those moods.

What’s your favorite look for spring?

Shopping: Rainy Day Deals & Reading

I think it has been raining since the moment I got back in town. Blech.

While we all wait for it to clear up {will it ever clear up?} here’s some local deals to beat your rainy day blues.

Boutique Blow Out Sale: If you’re like me, your ears perk up when you hear about the semi-annual local boutique blow-out sale. Blink, Circe & Clodhoppers are clearing out their sale racks to make room for their fun {and bright} Spring Arrivals. If you haven’t been before, this sale is no joke so plan on getting there early if you want to snag the good stuff before it’s gone.
The sale starts at 9am at Semonin Square (formerly Karen of Course) – 4903 Browsboro Rd (Highway 22).

Collections at Westport Village –  Starting tomorrow (Friday, Jan. 27), Collections will be offering 15% off STOREWIDE. The sale lasts through the weekend, so head on in (or tell your hubby or bf) and grab something.

Apricot Lane – While you’re at Westport Village, stop in and check out their $20, $30, $40 and $50 racks. You’ll be sure to find something that fits your fancy – from coats to tops and accessories.

And if you can’t drag yourself out in the rain, cozy up at your computer and check out some of my favorite local blogs.

The Chic Sheet – If you’re looking for some serious fashion, Miranda’s blog is for you. She has a knack for sharing some stunning fashion spreads that you wouldn’t get a chance to see unless you subscribed to every international Vogue published. Mix that in with her own fierce style and you’ve got a way to lose a couple hours of your life.

YepIndeed – Graylin shares a little bit of everything on yepindeed – from shopping finds to events, music, home and everything in between. She also recently did a guest post on my other blog, secondary embarrassment (p.s. – if you watch the bachelor & find yourself cringing through it, check out SE – I write recaps every Tuesday). Her blog is a breath of fresh air always filled with something new.

How cute is this room?

Wedding Row Kentucky – You all already know how much I heart Quinn at WRK. If you’re getting married, dreaming of getting married or just love all things weddings – check out her site for some of the best local info. (p.s. – Quinn & I are working on a big, fun feature in the next coming weeks and I cannot wait to share it!)

Thursdays – This blog, run from both Louisville & Brooklyn, is filled with recipes, crafts and other amazingness from Colleen and Stephania. If you’re into aspirational living like I am, you’ll want to check this out and start “pinning” away. I’ve added quite a few things to my Pinterest {p.s. – you can follow me here} board that, most likely, won’t be completed but I’ve got big dreams that I’ll finally find the time.

Homemade Marshmellows on Thursdays

And since I’m always trying to improve Lou What Wear, if you have any tips on how to make things better, what you’d like to see more of (or less of) and what kinds of links you like – please let me know!

Style Spotting: A Black Tie Affair

This past weekend I had the great pleasure of attending the amazing, black-tie wedding of a high school friend. This was no standard wedding, this beauty was held at the incredible Vizcaya Museum & Gardens (seriously, use the link to check the place out, it is unreal) in Miami (Florida not Ohio). Vizcaya is this amazing home built in the early 1900’s by developer James Deering that mimics European (mainly Italian) villas (sorry for the quick history lesson). It is right on the water and the wedding was so crazy beautiful (i’ve included some shots below for you to get an idea). There were flowers for days, gorgeous weather and great company.

Since this was a black-tie event, I needed something special so I headed over to Clodhoppers where Meggie helped me find the perfect dress. And even though it was short, it had the perfect mix of fun and fancy, especially after I added a few key accessories. I apologize in advance for the pictures – I forgot my camera here in Louisville and my mom filled in as the photog with her camera – but I had to share with you all!
