Back to Basics – Love a Leather Jacket

Feb 14, 2017

Happy Valentine’s Day!

I’m basically sitting this Valentine’s Day out, save for some cute cards and sweet treats for my kids, but that won’t stop me from getting in on the spirit today on the blog. If you’re in Louisville, you’ve no doubt seen the heart covered windows at Please & Thank You. If I could recreate this at my house, I would but it might seem a little weird. It’s such a happy corner of Nulu and of course, when I see it, I beeline in to grab a chocolate chip cookie. If you haven’t had one, go there now. If you’re from out of town, order the mix and make them at home. I’ve done it and they are {almost} as good. Oh and this is not sponsored (although I wish it was. Please & Thank You, can I be your cookie ambassador?), I say all this as a serious chocolate chip cookie connoisseur who appreciates when places get it right.

Keeping the basics coming with today’s leather jacket look. This one is faux, obviously, and under $100. It also comes in brown if that’s more your style. You may think leather jackets are too edgy for you and to that, I say psshhh. They can make jeans and a t-shirt look more polished and can give a little bit of edge to a girly dress. Plus you can wear them almost all year long (with the exception of those sweltering summer months). If you don’t like the standard style, go for one with a waterfall, drapey collar or that just has leather sleeves. My tip is to try on a bunch of options (just order a bunch and send back the ones that don’t work) since you’ll want it to fit well but not be too tight.

And like I said, you can throw it on with a simple tee, jeans and sneakers but I went for it since it’s Valentine’s Day and threw on some bright red heels. These were one of those diamond in the rough finds from the Gilt Outlet but I’ve linked up a bunch of options below. You may not wear these all the time but it’s worth having a great pair of red heels in your wardrobe. Like the jacket, they can make even the simplest looks a little sassier.
