keeping calm and sane in the Q with Bluegrass Hemp Oil

Jun 22, 2020

Let’s talk about CBD. Have you jumped on the bandwagon yet? If not, it’s time you gave it a try. Especially in these Corona times. It has been a God send in helping me maintain sanity and my cool when surrounded by the kids 24/7. There’s only so many fights and snack requests and messes you can handle before you lose it, you know? Adding a more consistent CBD routine has been key to making sure I don’t totally fly off the handle.

That on top of the current state of the world is enough to have us all on edge.

I’ve been trying out a bunch of the different products from Bluegrass Hemp Oil which is a Midway, KY based CBD company (gotta keep it local). BHO was created by a mom looking to help her son deal with the constant seizures he faced after being diagnosed with epilepsy. When traditional medication wasn’t helping, she turned to CBD. It ended up being the answer and now he is living seizure-free. Her mission to create full-spectrum CBD products here in Kentucky is what led to the creation of Bluegrass Hemp Oil. Their products range oils to salves, roller balls to bath salts. They even have a line of dog treats (more on that below).

We’ve been working with the team at BHO at Lemonade to help with their PR but as an added bonus I’ve had the chance to try out a bunch of their products. I’ve dabbled with a variety of CBD brands but none has fully integrated into my life like BHO. I use the Genesis Blend capsules in the mornings, take the Genesis Blend oil at night before bed, use the bath soaks when I need to chill out, give Red the Unruffled treats to help him stay calm when we leave for a couple hours and I’ve even used the honey in my tea or added a smidge to the kids PB&J when they’re particularly wound up. They truly have a product for every facet of life.

I don’t have reviews for everything here but I wanted to highlight a couple of my favorites. If you have questions on any of the products though, I can give you my thoughts + experience.

Genesis Blend Capsules

One thing I hear from my friends who ask about CBD, is whether the oil tastes weird. Personally, it doesn’t bother me  – I just usually take a swig of water afterwards – but I know it can be a turn-off for some people.

While I take the oil at night, I prefer to use the capsules in the morning. I just pop one with my vitamins as part of my daily routine. The CBD releases a little slower in the capsules which is nice. As someone who struggles with anxiety, especially as it relates to work, the capsules have helped me stay more balanced throughout the day. Instead of getting super upset about little issues or inconveniences, I’m able to take them more in stride. It’s one of those things that you notice more when you DON’T take it than when you do. When I miss a day or forget to pack the bottle, I can tell that I am a bit more irritable and get easily annoyed.

I also tend to carry a lot of stress in my neck and shoulders as well as clench my jaw. After getting on a normal routine, I’ve noticed that I don’t find myself clenching my teeth as much. If anything, that’s been the biggest relief.

CBD – HUSH + CENTER Rollers

You won’t find a better buy if you’re looking to try out CBD. This little roller is only $12 and has been my quarantine sidekick. I took these photos at my home office set-up aka my dining room table and this roller has been sitting in that tray ever since it came in the mail. I reach for it a couple times a day to roll on my temples or neck when I am feeling especially stressed or overwhelmed (something that can easily happen when kids are bouncing around you).

This HUSH one is great for headaches but for me, it helps me relax too. It also smells so good – the mix of peppermint and eucalyptus automatically makes me feel better.

You can also rub it on your kids feet or palms when they are having a bit of a meltdown to help calm things down. I also like to rub a little on Blake’s arms before her nap to help her settle down.

It’s perfect to keep in your purse or at your desk. I can see myself reaching for it when all the madness of kid’s activities and sports start again and the road rage sets in.

Unruffled Dog Bites

These are the holy grail. Let’s be honest, puppies are wild. They’re even more wild when they have kids to run around with.

After staying home so much with Red during the quarantine, he has a little bit of separation anxiety. He’s gotten better but the first few times we left, he panicked. So about 30 minutes before we knew we’d be leaving, I would give him one of these to help him calm down. Well, they worked.

And Red is OBSESSED with these.

I ended up having to hid the canister (which is adorable and looks so cute on your counter) because they kids were giving them to him too often. He’d eat five and pass out if he could. We save them for when we’re heading out for a couple hours or if he’s especially wound up before bed time. They were SUPER helpful during the crate training process, since Red would whine for the first 20 minutes or so when we’d put him in for bed. When we started giving him these before bed time, he was much easier to calm down and easily went in his crate.

Basically, these are the best. If you’re in Louisville, you can pick them up at White’s Mercantile or you can always order them online.

Overall I have loved every BHO product I’ve tried. The nice thing too is that you can purchase them in bundles so you’re able to try out a few different products at a time (might I suggest the Stress bundle for all my fellow Stressed Sallys). If you’re wondering where to start, I’d recommend the Genesis blend or the capsules but you really can’t go wrong with whatever you try.

I am thinking about doing a Q&A session with them over on IG at some point, so definitely think of some questions and we can get the answers to them together. Or feel free to drop me a note and I’ll be happy to share more.
