Derby Dress of the Day: For the Kentucky Oaks

Apr 4, 2017

How many of you love Oaks day way more than Derby? I know you’re out there. Almost every Louisvillian I talk to about Derby prefers the Oaks. If you’re new to this whole Derby thing, the Kentucky Oaks is the big race on the day before the Kentucky Derby. In the not so distance past, Oaks was a day for the locals. Still a huge day at the track but not as big as Derby. Those days are LONG gone. Now Oaks is just as big as Derby with some locals and out-of-towners alike making it their main event.

Another {somewhat} recent development is the Oaks day Pink-Out. Churchill Downs partners with breast cancer charities to raise money – $1 from every Lily purchased is donated –  as well as honor survivors – there is a parade of survivors right before the race. Everyone wears pink, or is highly encouraged to do so, which means, if you’re going, you’re going to want to find something in the signature hue.

I may not get down with bright, bold pinks but I live for a pretty pale pink. So when it comes to Oaks dressing, I’ll be sticking with this season’s signature blush hue. When I saw this one-shoulder dress, I knew it would make a perfect Oaks dress – great for just about anywhere on the track, depending on how you style it.

Want to go dressier? Pair it with a classic navy or chic black. Keeping it casual? Go with nude wedges or simple, strappy sandals.

You can always go all out and tie on one of these LOFT options. Either way, you can’t go wrong.

If this blush number isn’t your style, I’ve included a few more pretty pink options below.
