Derby Dress of the Day: For an Outdoor Box

Apr 3, 2016

Popping in really quick on a Sunday because I dropped into Anthropologie yesterday, spotted this dress and couldn’t wait to share it. Well, I saw this dress and a handful of others that were perfect for Derby, Oaks or Thurby.

Most of the time, I think a lot of Anthro dresses aren’t quite right – either way too expensive or not quite the right fit/style. This year, it’s totally different. They have so many options that won’t kill your budget like this pretty smocked floral number that is under $150 (nice right!? – most of the time I rule out almost all Anthro dresses cause they are $250+).

Anthropologie Smocked Tangiers Dress by KAS New York
Pair it with: Sole Society ‘Jenny’ Slingback Wedge | Calvin Klein ‘Niall’ T-Strap Wedges
Kate Spade ‘Cape Drive – Harriet’ Crossbody Bag | ASOS Scallop Crossbody Bag

I love this option for an outdoor box because it is light and airy so you wont get too hot. Definitely don’t want any super thick fabrics or tight fits if it’s going to be hot (you’ll stick to the seats – gross, I know, but true). What really sold me is the subtle floral print. I love a floral print for the races but sometimes they can be a little much, especially in a red/pink combo like this. The smocking breaks up the print making it feel really youthful. Love.

If you’re going to Thurby, leave the hat at home or opt for a smaller fascinator like this one from ASOS (side note: who knew ASOS had fascinators?). But for Derby or Oaks – go big. I think this dress would pair great with a wider brim hat which is also perfect to shade you from the sun if you’re in a box that’s not under cover.

Pair it with wedges and a bag that will fit all your goodies and you’re all set.
