Derby Style: A Likely Pick

Apr 17, 2018

You know that feeling when you think you’ve got it all together. Yeah, me neither. But yesterday, I felt like I wasn’t terribly behind and had big plans to get ahead of the game. And then Drew went to his old man basketball game and texted me saying he think he messed up his ankle… bad.

Welp, turns out he ruptured his Achilles tendon, has to have surgery this week and will need to be off it for the next couple months. So there’s that. I know it didn’t happen to me but it’s definitely something that’s thrown a wrench in things. Especially since it’s his right foot so driving is tough if not impossible. So send all your good vibes and extra vodka my way.

But enough complaining, Derby is three weeks away and we’ve got our tickets lined up so I am in full prep mode. And oh, if you thought Drew’s foot getting messed up was slowing down my plans, no freaking way. He’s gonna be rolling through those crowds whether he likes it or not.

I’ll go ahead and say that as much as I love this Likely dress that I tried on at the Dress & Dwell Pop-Up (full disclosure: Dress & Dwell is a client of Lemonade PR but this post is not paid), it’s a little small for me. Their dresses run tiny! I normally wear a 4 – 8 depending on the brand. In Likely, I think I’d need a 10 or 12 (do they make 12’s… I’ll have to check). So be sure to size up or order a couple sizes to try on.

I do love their dresses though. The fabric is really nice and the colors are perfect for spring, especially if you want to wear a really big or bright hat/fascinator. They make the perfect backdrop. If you like a style but don’t love the color, be sure to click through because they often come in a handful of colors.

If you’re in Louisville, you can try on a bunch of these options at Dress & Dwell since they got a bunch of the styles in stock. And on the hat front, Britni from Headcandi will be at Dress & Dwell in New Albany on Thursday for a trunk show with Bourbon & Boweties from 11 to 2 pm. You can talk to her about a custom piece or pick up something to match your dress. If you’re not local, you can always order a custom piece from Headcandi through her Etsy shop.  Oh and just so you all know, none of this is sponsored. They did lend me pieces for these pictures but nothing was paid. I just love both the shop and Britni so I am happy to share their pieces with you. Just wanted to make sure you all knew!

Okay, that’s all the news I’ve got to share. I hope you all are still enjoying the Derby posts. I know I’ve been a little hit or miss this year and I apologize for that. I’m trying my best to share as much as possible but things like work, kids and ruptured Achilles keep getting in the way! But as always, if you’re looking for something specific – drop me an email (danielle@louwhatwear.com) and I promise to help you find something perfect! Also, you can check out the Derby Dress Shop and the Derby Hat Shop for lots of my favorites.
