Inspiration: Flower Power

May 13, 2014

I haven’t been doing a ton of shopping lately but I have done a ton of hunting, pinning and perusing for favorites while I wait out this babe. One trend that I’m {once again} gravitating to is the floral and tropical print that is everywhere from dresses to shorts to jackets, tops and pants.

Last year I think everyone was just figuring out how to avoid looking like your grandma’s old sofa or drapes and now we’re more comfortable with the modern florals that have made their way to shelves. One tip to keep in mind when hunting for the perfect flower print is the scale. If you’re petite, keep the print a little smaller or wear something that incorporates florals into the details (like this dress). Also, if you’re going with separates, balance out the uber-feminine print with simple basics or with a graphic tee (like below).

If flowers feel too girly, choose the more tropical version of the trend (like I did with these pants last summer). I especially love the structured styles – like the shorts below (paired with a bright moto-jacket). But you can obviously do no wrong in the flowy options like the chiffon skirt and silky romper. Now you just have to choose which way to rock the trend.
