Inspiration: Mastering the Master Bedroom

Feb 29, 2016

You know how in Cinderella her Fairy Godmother appears, waves her wand and all of a sudden Cindy’s got everything she needs to kill it at the ball? I need that Fairy Godmother to show up at my house and turn all of my clutter into Pinterest-worthy decor, magically transform my Target sheets into plush, fancy, high thread count, all-white loveliness (that never stains) and bippity boppity boo my hand-me-down furniture into a magical mix of investment pieces and boho/mid-century finds. Is that too much to ask for?

I’m pretty sure those types of Fairy Godmothers exist but they’re called Interior Designers and they cost a fortune. So maybe what I really need is apply to every show on HGTV, or hit the lottery or magically come into an inheritance from some long-lost relative. Yeah, that seems as likely as that Fairy Godmother showing up.

Sorry if that got a little Debbie Downer-ish. It’s just since moving in, all I’ve wanted to do is have everything totally settled and put together. I’ve also decided that now none of our old furniture looks right but my tuna fish budget is not in line with my new caviar taste when it comes to decor. Clearly that’s something I need to come to terms with. I’m trying to take it slow on tackling projects and while our family/living room is the most in need of some new pieces, I feel like our master bedroom is where we can get the most bang for our buck and make the most impact without having to spend a ton. It’s also my safe haven from the kiddos, so selfishly I’d love to have look more like a retreat than a mish-mash of random furniture and laundry baskets (I’m really setting the scene, huh?).

I’ve called in the help of Havenly (no, this post is not sponsored – I’m just jazzed to have a little help and thought you all might be interested to follow along on the process) since their design skills come in under budget. {Side note: If you’re not familiar, Havenly is an online interior design service where you upload pictures, give a bunch of feedback and go through a little pinterest-type inspiration board to give them your aesthetic – they then put together some design direction and suggest furniture/accessories within your specified budget.}  I’m hoping the designer I work with can help find some great pieces, art and new bedding to compliment our bed (we splurged on this one from West Elm last year) and tie the room together. And since I thought maybe some of you might be int he spring refresh mode, I thought I’d share some of my inspiration.

I’ll also keep you posted on how the process goes with Havenly in case anyone out there is looking to give it a try. In the meantime, here’s the vibe I’m going for… and yes, I know it’s a little all over the place.

  1. Love! Beautiful rooms AND photography. Gorgeous!

  2. That dark grey room reminds me of the rooms at the new 21c in Lexington. Never thought I’d like having dark walls in a bedroom, but it’s something that I could 100% get down with now.
