Kentucky Derby Style: Girly in Gingham

Apr 11, 2018

I’m sure you’ve seen gingham everywhere these day but on a hat? I think not.

When I opened up a delivery from Jill Courtemanche Millinery and saw this pretty little thing I may have squealed in delight. Have you seen anything cuter for spring? It is beyond adorable and so great for the track. Even better, although Jill may not agree, I think you can get away with wearing it with the gingham in the front or the back – giving you two looks for the price of one.

You may remember Jill’s name from a series we did last year featuring her beautiful pieces. Jill creates beautiful, fun and feminine pieces out of her studio in California (so jealous) and every year whips up some stunning pieces for Derby. But even if you’re not looking for something for the track, you should check out her shop since it’s full of more day-to-day summer hats – you know, if summer ever decides to show up.

This piece felt so light and airy that I thought going with a dress made it seem so formal so I paired it with this stripe skirt and tee. I love this look for Thurby, a Derby brunch or for a preppy, casual look for the races. You could easily rock this entire look for an outdoor box or the Paddock. Obviously this hat can be dressed up with something a little dressier. I think it would be darling with this baby blue number .

If you’re as in love with this piece as I am, you can make it yours here. Jill can also customize one for you so don’t hesitate to reach out to her to make something special. She’s incredibly talented and her pieces are totally different and just the right mix of girly and sophisticated – like this one that I LOVE.
