Outfit Post: Black Out

Dec 26, 2013

Can you believe Christmas is over?

I’m not going to lie, the days between Christmas and New Year’s are always my favorite. Not saying that I don’t love eating, drinking and being merry with family to celebrate but it can get pretty exhausting. It was an all-day marathon yesterday and now I just want to take a nap.

It’s been a whirlwind since Monday when we got an early Christmas present when we found out that we are expecting a little girl. I’m already nervous about the whole thing (I was positive that it was a boy, just shows that you really have NO idea what the big guy has planned for you) but it is definitely exciting.

Beyond just that fun news, Christmas was very good to me and especially my little guy who is swimming in Mickey Mouse gear (pretty proud of the make-shift Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Car we threw together – thank god for decals). I must have been a good girl to find this under the tree along with some other goodies. The bag will go great with my current uniform of all-black everything.

I wore a variation on this outfit today to work (swapped black pants for jeans and boots instead of heels) and I plan on wearing some mix of this look at least once a week throughout the winter. Clearly, the inspiration has taken root. The best part is that you can cheer it up a little with bright accessories (see: this neon orange scarf), bold shoes or a colorful bag. I have also swapped out the gray coat for my bright blue one to avoid giving off the total b**ch look (although sometimes that’s the look I’m going for).

This particular look was inspired by this pin that, I swear, everyone must have on their style/outfit boards. I’m still on the hunt for a necklace that epic but this one has been a pretty trusty companion this holiday season.
