Outfit Post: Simple Sequins

Dec 29, 2014

Is anyone else still in denial that New Year’s is this week? Such an old person thing to say but the last month has flown by in a flash of holiday parties, family obligations and Christmas shopping. I am pretty excited though about partying with friends to ring in the New Year. Last year, the whole being pregnant thing keep us parked on the couch so I’m looking forward to getting dolled up for a night out.

Getting dressed for New Year’s Eve can be kind of a daunting task though. I ended up splurging on a sequin number (from Nasty Gal which has a lot of fun options) but am debating whether I want to go all out. I’m thinking about just dressing up this skirt that has become a holiday staple for me. I wore this outfit (and a couple variations of it) over the holidays but it would work just as easily for a casual NYE party.

Last but not least, I can’t run off before talking about this necklace that I MADE! with Emily from Elva Fields. Emily has an amazing, cozy studio on Frankfort Avenue and she hosted me and a couple gals for a BYOB – Bring your own Brooch – party. Basically, we brought a piece to inspire us (I brought one of my Grandma’s elephant brooches but I forgot to attach it in these pics) and then she helped us create our own unique piece under her expert guidance. I wanted to do something colorful and unique so with Emily’s help (and her ridiculously fun collection of beads), I whipped this up.

The even better news is that Emily is planning on hosting these parties for small groups here in Louisville so you can create something special with a family heirloom. I think they are going to be an especially huge hit with bride-to-be’s who want to make something modern out of that favorite family piece. It was one of the most fun afternoons I’ve had a in a long time and I got to leave with my new favorite necklace. I’ll be sharing more pics from our afternoon once Emily releases details on the classes so stay tuned.

Ok, I officially need to add a sequin skirt to my closet. LOVE this 🙂 Oh, and so jealous that you’re not wearing tights or a coat…it is FREEZING here in Chicago. Another reason why I miss the ville.
