Shopping: Keep Louisville Weird – Support Small Business Saturday

Nov 25, 2011

Happy Black Friday! I hope you all enjoyed a fabulous Thanksgiving feast with your loved ones. I know I didn’t get a post out yesterday but please accept this belated Thanksgiving thank you for reading, supporting and spreading the word about Lou What Wear. I am so thankful for every single person who takes the time out of their day to spend a little time in my little circle of the blogosphere.

So i’m not sure if you are a crazy bird like me and jumped out of bed to hit the malls this morning. I was out at 7 am (not as early as in the past but I didn’t really NEED anything) and enjoyed some quick shopping for some presents (some to give others and a couple for myself).

I’m saving most of my shopping mojo for Small Business Saturday. This little movement began a couple years ago and now American Express  has helped put some major advertising dollars behind it to help get the word out. I was lucky enough to win a $25 gift card from The Courier-Journal site in a giveaway to promote tomorrow’s local shopping extravaganza and you can bet I’ll be using that money locally.

(p.s. – in looking for images for this post, I discovered that if you are an American Express card holder,  you can get a $25 credit on your statement for registering your card and shopping local tomorrow. Nice bonus.)

I hope you’ll get out there and support a local Louisville business tomorrow. There are hundreds of options – grab a present, get an ice cream cone, a beer or a meal, get yourself a new pair of jeans, earrings or pick up a toy for your favorite little one. There are tons of options. Here are some of my favorites (and some great deals!).

Blink Boutique – They’ll be offering customers 30% off their ENTIRE PURCHASE today and tomorrow. They’ll be opening at 9 am, so you can get in, grab something and be back on the couch in time for football.

Clodhoppers – The ladies at Clodhoppers are supporting a cause close to my heart, The Salvation Army (more on that to come). Bring in a coat to donate between now and Sunday and receive 25% off ANY ITEM.

The Urban Farmhouse Market – So I have been scoping out this new store for a few weeks and popped in today. It was love at first sight. Stop by this gift & homegoods shop on Frankfort Avenue to pick up one of a kind (and super reasonably priced) gifts, holiday decor and more. I brought home a handful of goodies. They’ll be doing giveaways throughout the day. Stop in tonight on the Trolley Hop or tomorrow – they’ll be open at 9am.

Collections at Westport Village – I always stop in Collections when I’m looking for a great party dress. Grab one now and be ready for the slew of holiday parties you’ll be attending. Collections offered a bunch of deals today (you can still stop by today for 10% off your entire purchase) and I’m sure they’ll be posting big deals for tomorrow.

Apricot Lane – While you’re in Westport Village, stop by and grab the fur vest i’ve been eyeing or that great leather dress (seen here). They are offering $25 off a $100 purchase today and I imagine they’ll do a great sale for Small Biz Saturday.

Ribbons & Rags – If you’re looking for a laid back shopping experience, head out to Norton Commons and say hi to Meghan at Ribbons & Rags. Pick up a cute coat, some fun accessories and one of those adorable polka dot pieces (seen here) that were hanging from the walls.

Dee’s – In the mood to make some Christmas crafts (don’t act like you haven’t pinned a ton of them on Pinterest)? Head on over to Dee’s for their annual sidewalk sale.

Circe – If there is a new coat or pair of boots on your wish list, send this link to your honey, money or really awesome bestie to let them know they can save 25% at Circe today and tomorrow. They’ll also be doing gift certificates based on the amount you spend (see below). Buy a beautiful gift for a special someone and get a little happy back to grab yourself something.

To help support the shop local movement, the Louisville Independent Buisness Alliance aka the “Keep Louisville Weird” folks have created a way you could win $1000. All you have to do is shop at 5 local stores between now and January 6th. Save your receipts and take them to any Feeder’s Supply or Highlands Cleaners location. You’ll get entered to win $1000 (and a fun bumper sticker). You can enter as many times as you like. All the details are here.

Last but not least, after you’ve shopped it out on Saturday, head over to VINT in Northfield on Brownsboro Rd between 1 and 4 pm. Grab a cup of coffee and enjoy some carefree shopping from Stella & Dot, Arbonne and more. Check out all the details here.

Are you planning on heading out tomorrow? What’s your favorite local shop?

Let me know if you get any awesome deals or fun stuff!
