Style Spotting: Golden Globes ‘One of a Kind’ Style

Jan 13, 2014

If there was one fancy, swanky, A-List celebrity event I could score an event to, at the top of my wish list would be attending the Golden Globes. Also, let’s be real – I’d take an invite to ANY of these events, I’m not picky. But seriously, the Globes (as fancy entertainment industry people refer to them) seem like a damn good time. Big time movie stars mingling with my favorite television peeps, all boozing strong while watching hilarious Tina Fey and Amy Poehler – count me in.

For this affair, you can’t show up in just any old thing. It’s gotta be great but not too edgy or boho (that’s for the Grammy’s or the Independent Spirit Awards) and not way over the top (you gotta save that for the Oscars). Almost every year, I end up liking the fashion at the Golden Globes more than any of the other award shows. This year, I can’t say that I was totally blown over by the amazingness but I still had a pretty extensive list of favorites (and one clear least favorite – why Sandy, why?).

I usually love doing a couple award show recaps so I was pumped when I got the chance to collaborate with Diet Dr Pepper to gab about my favorite “One of a Kind Looks.” The two trends that caught my eye was the always chic black dress (my personal favorites) and the all red. Some people even combined the two, although I didn’t totally love the pants in Emma Watson’s look, I give her points for giving it a go. She’s gorgeous enough to get away with it. I also loved the handful of glitzy, sparkly numbers that walked the red carpet. At the end of the day though, there was only one gal that had it all going on for me.

Check out my list of loves and my One of a Kind, absolute, total girl crush worthy, favorite below and then let me know who made your Best (and Worst) Dressed List.

Best of the All Black

Leslie Mann in Dolce & Gabbana
This may be my favorite dress of the night. The lace and the detailing on the neckline makes it for me.

Jessica Chastain in Givenchy
The detail on this look was stunning – too bad it doesn’t translate as well in pictures.

Camila Alves in Dolce & Gabbana
Despite the pose (and weird facial expression here) Camila Alves looked incredible and like a real person not some insane stick figure.

Tina Fey in Caolina Herrera and Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney
Didn’t love this look for Tina but this was my favorite of the night for Amy. Sexy yet sophisticated.

Red Hot

Lupita Nyong in Ralph Lauren
One word: Stunning.

Amy Adams in Valentino.
Didn’t love Amy’s hair but her makeup was amazingly fresh and this dress looks like it was made for her. It complimented her skin tone so well.

Emma Watson in Dior. Here’s the thing with this look. I love love love it in this picture but the back is a little (no actually a lot) weird for me, I didn’t dig the pants underneath and why were her shoes navy blue? If you just look at it from the waist up though, she looks gorgeous. Mostly I’m including her hear because I think her hair/make-up were flawless.

Sparkling

Olivia Wilde in Gucci Premiere
It’s just not fair to look this good while pregnant. She was, by far, the best dressed mom-to-be and I love the daring color. And I am taking this picture straight to my stylist next time I get my hair done – the color is gorgeous. I mean really though, how do you look this good pregnant? So jealous.

Naomi Watts in Tom Ford
That body. Wish she’d done a little something different with her hair but back to that body, wowowow.

Kate Beckinsdale in Zuhair Murad.
Has this woman aged in the last 10 years? I’m not joking, I think she’s found the fountain of youth/made a deal with the devil.

One of a Kind Look

Margot Robbi in Gucci.
My three-year old son said it best when she came on screen last night and simple stated, “Wow, she’s pretty.” You can say that again buddy. Love how this dress is revealing but not overly so, the detailing is unique but not overdone and the touches of emerald make it stand out. Those earrings are teh perfect compliment and her simple make-up plays up her natural beauty. I could go on but my girl crush is showing. Can’t wait to see what she rocks the rest of award season.

I actually liked Emma’s look, very unique. But the shoes were an odd color choice, not a fan of that. Lupita Nyong’s dress was awesome. Love Olivia with her little bump!
