Shopping: Going Green.

Happy Leap Day!

For me leap day means one extra day between me and my favorite month of the year – March. On my favorite day of the year – March 17 – all things that are good converge: my birthday, the NCAA Tournament and St. Patrick’s Day. So to get the official countdown underway and leap into March, here’s a bunch of green loveliness.

Bows & Polka Dots

Not going to lie, today’s outfit was built around wearing these heels that I bought a couple months back but still hadn’t worn. I loved the bow detailing but never quite found anything that worked (you may even argue this doesn’t but oh well!). Lately a few of my favorite bloggers have been busting our their pointy toe heels so I thought I’d give it a go. Still need to master the best time/place for my photos so bear with me! (Time especially since my jeans got a little baggy/saggy.)

This polka dot blouse is one of my go-to’s and is vintage from my step, step-grandma (yup, people have those. my step-dad’s step-mom). And this necklace is a recent etsy score that I’ve been excited to share. My favorite part of the shoes is the bow detail on the back so I’m glad this look shows them off.

Style Spotting: Oscar Inspiration

Happy Monday friends. I’m back after a few days spent in sunny Mexico. I’ll be sharing a little from that trip later this week but wanted to start the week off with a little Oscar recap.

Not gonna lie, I’m a much bigger Golden Globes than Oscars fan (I just love TV – I can’t help it) but the fashion at the Academy Awards is definitely something that can’t be missed. I didn’t catch the show (I was stuck on a plane somewhere between Cancun and Kentucky) but I kept up with the dresses on twitter. I was a little disappointed with the lack of bold colors and really stand out looks but I still think there was a lot of amazing-ness out there.

Here are some of my favorites.

Emma Stone in Giambattista Valli gown & Louis Vuitton jewels

I’m still not sure how I feel about the bow but I absolutely love the color on her. It’s also no surprise that Emma Stone & Kristen Wiig were two of my favorites since I have girl crushes on both of them.

Is there even a question of whether I would have loved this dress. Two words: polka dots.

I know a lot of people loved Jessica Chastain, Viola Davis, Michelle Williams and Gwenyth Paltrow’s looks but they weren’t my favorites (although I did love the green on Viola Davis). For more pictures, head over here.
Sorry for the recap post today. I’ll be back on my game tomorrow.

Until then, who rocked your favorite Oscar dress?

styling: the engagement sessions

Last week, an old friend from college emailed me and asked if I’d help her put together some outfit ideas for her upcoming engagement photo session. Here’s what she sent me.
p.s. – she is pretty adorable.

I like to channel (or pretend to) Zooey Dechannel on days when I’m feeling extra awesome. My style is a mixture of vintage and modern minimalist. My furniture is all Mid-Century Modern, and my clothes tend to lean toward 50’s and 60’s meets a hipster musician (if that even makes sense). Maybe think of what it would be like if Anthropologie and West Elm had a baby… and the baby was me. Okay, okay… I love color & coral or red lipstick! Not afraid, at all.

Matt (the ONE) is my mountain man. He likes a good beard and sometimes he surprises me with a mustache. The facial hair is a wild card. His style is what I’d call Lumberjack Prep. He loves to wear his Brooks Brothers shirts with a Patagonia vest while he golfs nine holes then comes home to build a campfire in the back yard while whittling an arrow to go hunting the next day (slightly exaggerated). He recently realized he’s very handsome in a bow tie.

I realize you are only helping me, but I figured it would help to know what Matt is like too.
The weather is going to be early spring. Colorado and Mother Nature have a funny relationship. I’m hoping the most I’ll need for cover up is a light jacket or blazer or maybe just a cardigan.

I’m short! 5’4 on a good day. I have no hips and built athletically (aka, broad, man shoulders). size two, although I swear sizes are changing because the other day @ LOFT I was wearing a ZERO (and I haven’t lost weight!)
As far as number of outfits, I’m thinking two at most.
There’s one piece I think I might like to incorporate (vintage cardi my gram wore in her wedding *mint condition)

Thank you, Thank you!

So I got to work with the goal of having three outfits options (I love having options).  I wanted to give her a bunch of looks that hit on her style as well as giving her the options to dress it up or down. I didn’t want anything too trendy since these pictures will be kept and displayed for a long time- didn’t want her to look back and have the images look dated. I also wanted to accentuate her figure while pulling in some lady-like touches to give her a little bit of a waist. Last, I wanted there to be a level of comfort too. From the boards I put together you can tell I got excited about giving her tons of mix & match possibilities. Oh and I didn’t want anything to be too pricey and blow the budget. There are a couple splurges in each look but mostly accessories that can be substituted for her personal collection or bargain finds.

Lindsey is adorable (follow her on instagram @lulucolumna) and I am hoping this helps make her engagement session a smashing success. Hopefully she’ll send some pics so we can see what she chooses!
