Rachel Zoe, Lauren Conrad & Anna Sui Oh MY! Lucky FABB Conference 2012

Sep 10, 2012

I’m finally getting back to reality after a whirlwind week away. By far the highlight of my trip was attending the Lucky Magazine FABB (Fashion & Beauty Bloggers) Conference. Every panel was filled with smart, interesting and engaging personalities all sharing their experiences surrounding the theme of “making it on your own terms.” Beyond the speakers, the room was filled with some of the most friendly, fun and seriously cool bloggers.

By far my favorite speaker was Rachel Zoe (who had Roger, Joey and her parents with her). She was surprisingly heartfelt, genuine and funny. Her conversation with Lucky Magazine’s Editor Brandon Holley wasn’t contrived or rehearsed but came across like two friends chatting about her background (loved that she just followed her dream to be the best stylist and achieved it in an unconventional way), the future (her Bravo! show got picked up for another season) and her family (specifically how having a son has changed her priorities and perception). And you can’t see them well in the pictures but the pieces she sported from her new jewelry line were, to use her words, “MAJ.”

The afternoon session had us hearing about Lauren Conrad’s latest ventures (and getting secondary embarrassment when someone asked about Speidi) and hearing two old friends – Simon Doonan and Anna Sui – dish about fashion and her career.

Thankfully I met some great new friends to share the day with especially since walking into these things can feel like the first day of school (what should I wear? who will i eat lunch with? what will the cool kids be doing?). I’m happy to say I got to meet some of my favorite bloggers (Alicia from

Cheetah is the New Black & Kiley from A Sequin Dress at Breakfast) and left with a bunch of blogger buddies  – if I’ve said it once (on twitter)I’ve said it a million times, the girls at RewardStyle (specifically Kelly from Hart of Style, Madison from Fifth & Madison, Allison of Love You Mean It and Mary at MAS Fashion) are some of the nicest gals I’ve ever met and a list of new blogs to follow.

The conference inspired me to refocus on my original goal for Lou What Wear – share inspiring style in Louisville – while also pushing me to step beyond my comfort zone to bring you all more quality content. I’ve already made a mile-long to-do list to make this happen starting with some fun one year anniversary posts in the next couple weeks (Yes, can you believe it? Lou What Wear is almost a year old!).

Anyways, enough of my blabbering. Here are the pics.
