Derby Dress a Day: For the Turf Club

Hey high rollers, you going to the turf club? Today I’ve got something for you but only for those ready to make a statement.

If you’re not familiar, the Turf Club is an exclusive, indoor/outdoor area of the track. The space includes a dining room, bar areas, your own betting windows and some prime balcony space. Those attending the Kentucky Derby in the Turf Club can expect to rub shoulders with celebrities and a local who’s who. (Got an extra ticket? Take me!) You won’t have to worry about finding a seat, so I say go for a great heel. You’ll also have a table to lay your things down on so you don’t need to worry about a cross-body or bigger bag.

Today’s dress is a bright bold Mara Hoffman number. It’s not for the shrinking violet but why not go big and stand out from the mass of pastels and florals that you’re sure to encounter (not hating, love me some pastels and florals). To finish this off, I’d top it with a fascinator in a matching blue or play off the touch of turquoise in the print.

I’m seriously hoping I bump in to someone sporting this number. If so, expect a big high-five. You’ve been warned.

Mood Board: Polka Dot Rock

I already LOVED polka dots and then the new J.Crew catalog arrived in my mail box. Upon seeing the look below (and subsequent looks inside), the love has moved into a full fledged obsession.

Yesterday, when I got the email about the Piperlime 20% off sale, I decided it was time to go ahead and snag the Marc Jacobs polka dot bag I’d been eying for months. Add to that some reward coupons and I think I got it for a steal. To put the kibosh on anymore polka dot frenzied splurges, I put together some of my favorite ways to incorporate the print into your day-to-day (I think I could live in that sweater). I especially love the belt for people a little nervous about doing a full-fledged look or to just add a little fun to a work look. What are you digging on big time right now?

Getting dressed for work is always a challenge for me. We’re able to dress casually when there are no client meetings planned but coming from a very formal work dress code, sometimes it’s hard for me to go seriously casual. I also never know when an appointment is going to pop up. Yesterday, I had a few informal meetings so I tried to take a casual dress and punch it up a little for work aka add black accessories.

p.s. – I feel like this necklace has popped into a ton of posts, promise I don’t wear it every day but I do love it. But at least this time it’s available at Spike the Punch!
