Thanks to Kohl’s for partnering on this post.
Back to School season is a bittersweet for me. Bitter because I hate to see the end of summer but sweet because I absolutely love back-to-school shopping (oh, and I love for someone else to be in charge of my kids for the majority of the day again). For someone who loves to order everything online and have it delivered to my door, this is an oddity but I truly love it. No really, my son’s school has this thing (that I’m sure a ton of schools have) where you can order all the supplies and they just deliver them there to their classroom. That’s all find and good but I’d rather head out and get everything on our own. Basically, I’m pretty sure I love it more than Drew. And he loves shopping.
Drew also has a soft spot for Kohl’s. He went once with a friend, spotted a giant selection of superhero pajamas and has insisted on doing all his shopping there since. It doesn’t hurt that they have a mix of just about everything he likes. That and riding the escalator and he was sold. So when we had the opportunity to partner up on a back-to-school post, it was a no brainer.
We were challenged to find three head-to-toe looks, two for Drew and one for me, all for under $250. It was a bit of challenge since Drew literally wanted one of everything but we made it work (with a lot of editing). The other challenge I accepted was the opportunity to embarrass him by taking blog pictures. So we’re sharing what our normal drop-off/pick-up routine looks like. Except the only kids there were the ones there for summer camp, so we had to wait for them all to go inside as not to totally ruin his school cred. I’m sure there will be plenty of time for that this school year.
Random Fun Fact: Drew makes us turn the radio to mute when we go through carpool so the older kids who help them get out can’t hear what we were listening to. Doesn’t matter what it is – it’s not like I make him listen to books on tape or opera or anything else that a kid might think is embarrassing – it’s gotta go on mute. Honestly, I feel like the silence is weirder but hey, who am I to judge.

Anyways, back to the outfits. When it came to picking out our looks, we figured Drew should get one uniform option (more on that in a sec) and one outfit for football and soccer practices. See our routine during the year is pretty standard: I try and sneak in a workout at 4:30 before picking him up (usually in a rush), having him furiously change in the car before heading off to whatever practice we need to be at in probably five minutes. So we figured my outfit should be centered on some new workout gear that can easily transition from the gym to practice.
Drew narrowed in on the Under Armour and Nike sections pretty quickly and went to town picking out a perfectly coordinated look. Yup, he picked out the ENTIRE thing. Then we headed over to the uniform section where I was pretty excited (it’s the little things these days friends) to see their selection of dri-fit tees/shorts. Just looking at some of Drew’s old school pants and shorts makes me sweat so it was nice to find options that won’t have him burning up the minute he leaves the classroom.

I was really pleased to find a huge selection of Nike gear for ladies. It’s no surprise that I went with an all-black look because I am nothing if not predictable. But these pants are so great. They are mid-rise, just snug enough without being too tight and thick enough without being too hot. I also am pretty jazzed about this tank (which I may have bought in gray too). It’s something I’d throw in my bag, along with this jacket for cooler days, so that I can ditch the sweaty workout tank and throw on something before joining the parent ranks at practice. I’m trying to stay in the loop on everything and smelling like a gym sock is an easy way to get blocked out on the bleachers.

My Total: $195 BUT when I was shopping all the Nike gear was Buy One, Get One Half Off so it ended up being $155.
We did go a little over but mostly because I splurged (#treatyoself) on the Nike hoodie that I’d been eying for a while and figured it was worth grabbing since it was on sale. Without it, I would be pretty close to budget ($10 over but that’s close enough, right?).
Kohl’s just kicked off their big Friends & Family sale so it’s a great time to knock out back to school shopping even if you’re still soaking up summer (like me, we’ve discussed it). You can save 20% off your purchase online with code FAMFRIENDS now through July 30th.
