Kentucky Oaks, or just Oaks as it’s called around these parts, has become almost as big as the Derby. It’s the marquee race on the Friday before the Derby and it’s a race of just the ladies, or fillies (Lillies for the Fillies). A few years back, Churchill Downs dedicated the day to breast cancer survivors and encouraged everyone to wear pink. It’s a tradition that’s still going strong and you can bet that even if it’s just a little pop of pink, everyone has a touch of the hue in their look.
So today I’m taking a slight turn from the Derby Dress of the Day and presenting a salmon pink number by Shoshanna sent over by the beauties at Blink! Boutique. Some people may shy away from pink, deeming it too girly, but I think you can do pink in so many different ways and this dress is a great way to honor the tradition without giving off the Barbie vibe.
For shoes, it’s up to you whether to go bold, high or a little more practical. Pink your poison (that was intentional, I’m a nerd). If you’ve got a place to sit and want to add a little color – pick something like these green Zara sandals. I love how they are paired with espadrilles in the photo so go high or low with a nude espadrille or just go for a low wedge with a little embellishment.
Shoshanna Beaded ‘Giana’ Dress ($396) – Available at Blink! Boutique
Shoes from top to bottom: Coach ‘Lucy’ Sandal | Ash ‘Diva’ Wedge | Topshop Wade Espadrilles | ZARA Green Strappy Heels
Here’s some more pink options… I’m planning on doing another all pink post soon so stay tuned!
I love this dress for Oaks! Girly and simple, with a little flair, just like Oaks day!

I didn’t realize that they incorporated the pink for breast cancer, how cool! Adorable dress, and all 4 pairs of shoes would look fab with it!
