It doesn’t come up too much around here but I am a wannabe foodie. I definitely don’t know enough about food to qualify as a legitimate one but growing up, my mom worked at a culinary school so I had the chance to try a lot of great dishes and restaurants. Now, the love continues through my Top Chef obsession, a running list of new restaurants to try and the nagging urge to attend every special food event in town.
That’s where Dishcrawl comes in. I met Allison Taylor a week ago or so (check her out over here) and got the scoop on what’s going on with Dishcrawl locally. In case you’re not familiar with the concept, here’s how they explain it:
Here at Dishcrawl, we are proud to say that we started off as a simple idea to explore different foods, restaurants, and neighborhoods in our local area. This idea has blossomed into who we are today, a company that is dedicated to re-imagining the way people experience food, drink, and their local communities.
This weekend they’re hosting a very fun crawl in St. Matthews that benefits a few great causes. On Saturday June 29th from 2 – 5 pm you can sample some delicious food will helping out a local charitable group. Dishcrawl has partnered with six non-profits including Supporting Heroes – the non-profit responsible for the majority of the funeral planning in the wake of Bardstown, KY Officer Jason Ellis’ ambush killing. The Neighborfood event will donate $10 from every ticket sold to the non-profit of the diners choice; the additional non-profits include Home of the Innocents, St. Benedicts Child Care Center, Orphan Care Alliance, American Cancer Society and No Kill Louisville.
On to the restaurants, you’ll check in at Mellow Mushroom and you’ll be able to meander around the neighborhood to seven other restaurants: Coals Pizza, Mellow Mushroom, The Fishery, Bluegrass BBQ, Superchef at The Seafood Connection, Gilberto Gelato, Paleta Pop Culture, Art Eatables.Your ticket includes food at each spot and they’ll be drink specials too so you can wash down the delicious eats. This is a great chance to get out, walk around, try out some of those restaurants you’ve been meaning to try (and the ones you already love) and if you live in St. Matthews, you can walk back home to help burn off some of those tasty calories. Tickets are $45 and can be purchased here.
Here’s to good eats!
