Fitness: What to Wear to Cycling

Aug 8, 2014

Even when they are rainy ones, Fridays are pretty great. I’m two weeks back into work and I must admit it’s been difficult to sneak visits to the gym in while trying to balance work and the kids (how freaking weird is it that kids is plural – so so weird).

One thing that’s been extremely helpful is the childcare at Milestone Wellness Center. Seven bucks for up to two hours is pretty great and way cheaper than a babysitter. It’s also lets you be on your own time and not worry about running late because you’re waiting for the sitter to get there. Instead, if you’re like me, you’re just late because on your own accord.

Another thing that’s been clutch is the new evening classes they’ve added at Milestone. If you’ve passed on joining because you can’t make it to a 4:30 pm (or even 5:30 pm) class, you’re in luck. They’ve alredy made some adjustments and will continue to do so in the next few weeks to accommodate the younger, working members.

The best addition to the evening line-up has been Rhythm Ride with Jeff at 7pm on Mondays. Before this past Monday, the only time you could take this class was during the day which has meant I haven’t made it to the class very much in the last couple weeks. Now I’m planning on making it a weekly ritual right alongside my other new Monday night addiction, Bachelor in Paradise (don’t even get me started on how great/trashy/ridiculous this show is – I LOVE it).

After one ride, I knew that I needed to invest in some new gear since you can’t sport your typical running shorts to this class – way too much chaffing for that. Since Rhythm Ride is basically an adaptation of Soul Cycle and since cycling is having a bit of a moment right now (sorry I know it’s so cheesy to say that but it’s true), I thought I’d put together some recommendations on what to wear to make sure you’re clothes don’t slow you down.

Jacket + Shoes: Nike ‘Tech’ Hooded Fleece Jacket  |Nike ‘Free 5.0 TR Fit 4’ Training Shoe (Women)
Tops: Nike ‘3D’ Mesh Racerback Tank |Nike Dri-FIT Touch Club Side-Tie Women’s Training Top | Under Armour ‘Twisted Tech’ Short Sleeve Tee |

Pants: Nike ‘Legendary Horizon’ Dri-FIT Training Capris  Zella ‘Live In’ Reversible Leggings Nike ‘Legend – Zigzag’ Dri-FIT Capris
Outift:
Nike Dri-FIT Touch Club Side-Tie Women’s Training Top | Nike Pro Loops and Lines Women’s Capris | Nike Free 5.0 TR Fit 4 Printed Women’s Training Shoe

I love that at the gym you can be a little more out there with bright colors and crazy prints. Pants are a must at cycling and I like going with a looser tee. You’re going to be sweating like crazy so I feel like a looser top keeps me a little cooler. You also won’t be jumping up and down so you don’t have to worry about exposed midriff.

Look for more features like this as I explore more classes. Speaking of exploring new classes, I tried Bootcamp with Johnathan and loved it. It’s like working out with a personal trainer in a small group setting. I’ll definitely be going back.

Time for the stats:

Pre-Baby Weight: 140 lbs.

Weight at 40 Weeks: 205 lbs. WOOF

Current Weight (11 weeks post-baby): 155 lbs
Despite the fact that the scale says I’m only down another 3 lbs, I’m definitely noticing a change in my body. Clothes are fitting WAY better. I’m back into some of the 6’s in my closet and a pair of 28 stretch jeans fit  (please note they were stretch). More importantly, I’m feeling really good. Still need to try and do a better job with food (and drink) choices but I’m on the right track.

15 more to go!

Whoop whoop for Rhythm Ride on Mondays! I actually told Kevin i was excited for Monday to come around so I could go again.
Another good investment is a padded seat… you can score one at Dick’s for $20.
