We’re 40 days away from the first Saturday in May which means it’s time to start talking Derby! Today I’m kicking off the {Derby Dress a Day} feature to get you ready for a day at the track – whether you’re going to the Paddock or a Jockey Club Suite, the Turf Club or the Infield, Grandstands or the Mansion or anywhere in between.
Kentucky Derby season is my absolute favorite time of year and one of the reasons I moved to Louisville. So this series is the one I look forward to all year round. My goal is to make it as helpful for locals as it is for those attending Derby for their first time so if you have any special requests or are looking for something and can’t seem to find it, drop me a note (danielle@louwhatwear.com) or leave it in the comments. I promise to get hunting!
Now I know you’re probably wondering where the hats are. Hats, and fascinators, are truly a personal style statement and every one wants something unique to their look. So the dresses are here to help you get started or to find a match to the hat you just had to have.
Within the next couple days, I’ll start showcasing the styled up Derby looks featuring real girls getting ready for the races in hats from amazing local milliners. I’ll also feature links and profiles on milliners that can help you put the finishing touch on your look.
This past weekend I had the very unique pleasure of having dinner with Trina Turk so I thought we’d kick things off with a pretty pastel number from her spring line along with some matching accessories.
Pair it with:
Wedges: Jeffrey Campbell ‘Rodillo-Hi’ Sandal; Sunglasses: Kate Spade ‘Bernadette’ ;
Crossbody Bag: Kate Spade ‘Cedar Street Magnolia’
###
I picked this pretty little number for a day spent outside in a third floor box. You’ll want to look polished and chic since you’ll be able to head inside and mingle with those heading upstairs but the wide straps won’t have you readjusting every five minutes plus the shape will keep you comfortable and cool.
Pair it with pretty wedges and a crossbody bag. You’ll want to keep your hands free for holding on to your program and cocktail. You also won’t want anything too big since you’ll be sharing space with five others in your box. Finish off the look with a pastel pink pair of shades and you’re set.
Looks like your trip to Charleston was great! Can’t believe Derby is just a few weeks away – time definitely does fly by.
Best,
Josh – The Kentucky Gent
