Does it feel like it should be way later in the week than Tuesday to anyone else? I’m having a tough time believing we’re still only two days into the work week. I think anytime a trip is coming up, the time before hand feels infinitely longer. So there’s my random musing of the day.
On to today’s look. No lie – I totally meant to share this dress before the holidays but obviously that didn’t happen. But Valentine’s Day is on deck and would be equally appropriate for a date night out or a Galentine’s girls night. Here’s the thing though, I have a tough time with dresses. Either it’s too short, or the arms are too short (I have CRAZY long arms … they are wildly disproportionate to the rest of my body), or it fits at the top but is too tight on the bottom. It’s a first world problem for sure but a struggle when you have to dress up and can’t find something to work.

Bell Sleeve Lace Dress from Dress & Dwell
Dolce Vita Knee High Boots
(these are last year’s version but similar here)
This dress fell into the “too short” category when I first tried it on. It fit perfectly everywhere else but I could use an extra inch or so on the hem. Initially, I thought about getting it altered and turned into a top (which I am still considering) but I knew I wanted to wear it at the holidays and had to figure out a way to make it work. Enter knee-high boots. With heels, this dress was mildly inappropriate but with boots, it’s balanced out and avoids the ‘she’s too old for that’ glances I worry about giving off when my dress is a little short.
I’ve used this same train of thinking with shorts that I nearly tossed and it’s been a game changer. And since it’s the end of the season, it’s a good time to pick up a pair of boots on sale (I grabbed these and LOVE THEM), rock them for a month or so and then break them out next winter. I’ve pulled a few favorites in case you want to grab some.
