I’m not great at keeping New Year’s resolutions but one I am going to try and stick with this year is saving more. In order to do that, I’m going to try and focus on buying quality, classic pieces and less stuff for the sake of stuff. So this month outfit posts are going to look a little different. I’ve been pinning tons of images of outfit inspiration and I’m going to try and recreate them with things already in my closet. I’m also going to try and mix and match things in my closet in new, unexpected ways. We’ll see how it goes.
I love how every month Glamour magazine takes a handful of items and shows how to mix it up, so that’s what I tried to do here. I’m taking six of my go-to basics and mixing them up for work, weekends and just running around. You’ve seen these items around here plenty of times (here and here and my favorite, here) and this surely won’t be the last time. But I think having staples like these – a white button-down, a utility vest, a chambray button-down, cropped black pants and skinny jeans – in the closet is a must.
What are your go-to closet items? Is it an accessory, the perfect LBD or a great pair of jeans?
Basic: Gap Black Cropped Pants (a great alternative to J.Crew’s Minnie Pant); Sequin Jacket: Piperlime (similar here); Shoes: Nine West; Polka-Dot Top: Blush Boutique
*Another Resolution – STAND UP STRAIGHT!
Basic: Banana Republic Jeans and Old Navy Vest (similar here); Booties: ShoeMint; Scarf: Express; Pull-Over: J.Crew
Basics: Gap Black Cropped Pants and Dress & Dwell Chambray Shirt (similar here) and Apricot Lane Fur Vest; Flats: Target (these ones are cute too!)
Basic: Chambray Shirt; Dress: LOFT; Shoes: Target; Necklace: J.Crew Outlet (old)
Basic: Old Navy White Button-Down; Sequin Skirt: Piperlime; Flats: BCBG; Necklace: Stella & Dot; Cuff: Joe Fresh
Basics: Banana Republic Jeans and Fur Vest; Flats: Target; Blouse: Target
LOVE the dress with the chamby underneath. I need to try that, I always worry ab it bunching or showing through, but worth looking through my closet to try to recreate!
Great idea! Love this post. And I’m with you on the buy less, buy better thing. Otherwise you end up with a closet full of trends and nothing to wear.
I like the idea of remixing instead of always buying new items. Can’t wait to see more of these posts!
