Style Spotting: Kentucky Derby 141

Kentucky Derby 141 has come and gone. Now I am in that post-Derby fog that’s a mix of pure exhaustion and a little bit of sadness that it’s all over. This year was one of my most memorable Derby seasons for a lot of reasons. If you’d asked me a year ago (when I was a giant pregnant swamp monster) if I thought I’d be able to run 13.1 miles, I would have laughed and said it wasn’t even a possibility. Somehow, with the help of my always supportive pal Caitlin, I made it across the finish line. Not only that but we ran for almost the entire race (save bathroom break and a couple of stretch breaks). Who knows if I’ll ever be able to do it again but I can cross that one off my bucket list. read more

Kentucky Derby Style: Green and Floral Neoprene

Gotta keep it short and sweet today  – just like today’s pretty model/friend Shannon :  ) – because work is slowly threatening to drown me. Well work or the 8 more inches of rain we’re getting today. I just have to keep thinking – April showers bring May flowers. Bring on the flowers.

I bet a lot of us don’t go out thinking we want a green fascinator or hat to top off our Derby look but I am pretty obsessed with this floral piece by Britni at Headcandi especially when paired with this floral fit and flare dress. Speaking of the dress, it’s another Dress & Dwell number that will have you doing a double take on how reasonable it is. read more

Favorite Things: A Year in Outfits

It’s only natural that as the year comes to a close, to doing a little looking back at where you’ve been, what you’ve done and in my case (and probably yours too) what you wore. I can say undoubtedly that in the first two categories, it’s been a pretty amazing year. In that last one, there have been hits and misses but that’s what it’s all about, right?

Seriously though, 2013 has been a really wonderful year. All of the highs have outweighed the lows and I look ahead to 2014 with so much to be thankful for and so much that I’m excited about. I’ve also got a to-do list a mile long in my head of things I want to accomplish, enjoy and just plain finish (organize, paint, clean) but that’s one of the fun things about the start of a new year. read more
