Original Makers Club Dinner Series at Holly Hill Inn

Jul 1, 2015

Sunday plans are usually a no-go for me. The only thing you can find me committed to on a Sunday night is pajamas and whatever is airing on HBO. That is unless you throw out an invitation for a dinner by a James Beard award semi-finalist. Let’s just say those invitations don’t come around very often (or ever) so when it came my way last week, I jumped at the opportunity.

This past Sunday evening in Midway (a little outside Lexington), Original Makers Club hosted a dinner at Holly Hill Inn with the most delicious menu prepared by Chef Ouita Michel. My pal (and partner-in-crime for these types of events) Cailtin and I threw on our best “summer-chic” ensembles, per the dress code, and hit the road for Midway. We were welcomed to the prettiest set-up along with delicious cocktails from Woodford Reserve. The weather also couldn’t have been better – thankfully the rain held off and the killer heat + humidity combo decided to take a day off.

After some mingling it was dinner time (to say I was anxiously awaiting it would have been an understatement) and it did not disappoint. The food wasn’t stuffy or inaccessible but more like Sunday at your parents, if say, your mom or dad was an award winning chef. All of the sides, including a cheese grits souffle that I am still dreaming about, were served family style along side baskets of corn bread. Dessert was your choice of home made pie – chocolate, apple, cherry or lemon. I may or may not have had two slices (had to try the chocolate and lemon) AND tasted Caitlin’s (she went with the apple which was beyond good).

If you’re in Lexington and haven’t taken a spin to Midway to have dinner at Holly Hill, it’s time to make plans. For us Louisville peeps, it’s a little bit of a farther drive but it is definitely worth it. Make reservations next time you’re planning a weekend in Lex or just make an afternoon of it and do a tour of Woodford beforehand.

Here’s a few of my snaps from the evening + some courtesy of the Original Makers Club.

Big thanks to Elizabeth at Original Makers Club for the invite! Make sure to check out their list of events coming up later this summer.

Disclosure: I received two tickets to this event from OMC. All opinions, ramblings and commentary are my own.
