Required Reading: Laying Low

This week was {barely} controlled chaos. It started out very sleepy after last weekend’s trip and including a toilet submerged phone, a visit from my mom, meetings on meetings on meetings at work. But what started in a big blur ended with meetings with two really cool Louisville ladies (Allison at dishcrawl and Laura from Kluster), mid-day margaritas at work, a quick, relaxing trip to the pool and a night catching up on my DVR.

I’ll be heading to the pool and spending some quality time with the Dad’s in my life this weekend. Hope you’re making it a good one!

Here’s what I was loving this week…

* Mary {M.A.S. Fashion} was one of the first people I met in the blogging world and seeing this picture (and how happy she looks in it) made me smile. Nothing like good things happening to good people.

* I stumbled upon this post on Pinterest and it’s a great resource for any know with or thinking about starting a blog. (via Ashley Ella Design)

* It was so great to finally meet and get to hang with Kaitlin {Secretive Style} last week. Check out how Va Va Voom she looks here.

* I heart Nikki {My Style Diaries} and this look makes me want to hit up an outdoor concert in California.

* Are any of you as obsessed with Candy Crush as I am? It’s a problem. Apparently it is for these guys too.

* Okay and last but not least, I’ve told you all too many times that I am obsessed with Pretty Little Liars aka PLL. The best part though has been hearing from so many other obsessive fans. So if you’re into reading the A theories, check out this favorite read of me and my PLL obsessed pals.

Event + Yay! It’s a Giveaway: Social Club Dinner Louisville * July 26th

If you’re like me, when you hear Masquerade  you immediately flash to your favorite {Gossip Girl/Pretty Little Liars/Revenge} episode. Well your masquerade party dreams can be freed from their small screen confines when Social Dinner Club comes to town on July 26th.

But just like on Pretty Little Liars (Sorry, I can’t help throwing in a PLL reference. Season Four starts in a week!) there’s a touch of mystery to this party. Here’s how it works, according to their website:

You and your friends will gather at a secret location,
dressed to match the theme of the evening.
Bring your own prepared meal
lavishly decorate your table and surrounding areas
and dance the night away under the stars to live music.

Social Club Dinners have a limited number of invitations. To attend a dinner in your city, request an invite and secure your spot on the guest list. Those on the guest list will receive an invitation to Social Club Dinner via email, with complete instructions on how to register for the event. Ticket sales will then open to the public after all of the invites have gone out.

All Social Club Dinners are pop-up dinner parties that are unique in their own way. Each event has a different theme and an astounding venue. The location of the event is kept secret until a few hours before the event. As an invited guest you will bring table adornments and your own meals to contribute to the design of the night.

We encourage you to dress up according to the evening’s theme and set the tone of the night with the decorations you choose and the meals shared amongst friends. This fabulous night ends in laughter, merriment, and dancing. Social Club Dinners are meant to be enjoyed by all! Show up with friends and enjoy the evening’s events over dinner and under the stars.

Pretty cool right?

The biggest part to remember is that you have to bring your own meals. So get together with a crew and plan a little pot luck. Jill from Social Club Dinner told me that in the past some people have worked with chefs or caterers to go big on their dinner.

The theme is technically optional but c’mon what fun is that. So follow the dress suggestions and go a little more formal and add a mask. If you’re interested in attending, make sure you head over to their site and request an invite.

And the best part of this post, is that we’re giving away two tickets to the dinner.

Favorite Things: Pretty Little Liars Style

Anyone who knows me, knows that I have a serious TV obsession. My DVR can record three shows at once (and often does) and holds about a bajillion hours worth of shows. Now I know some people can get all judgy about watching TV but to them I can only nod in swift disagreement. Every morning I come in and ask my co-workers if they watched {Pretty Little Liars, Real Housewives of Anywhere, Mad Men, Downton Abbey, Homeland, Game of Thrones, Toddlers & Tiaras, Nashville, SERIOUSLY ANY SHOW ON TV} last night. There’s very few shows I don’t at least dabble in. I can’t help it, I’m a TV addict.

Anyways, two of my biggest fixes are back on the air and wouldn’t you know, they were on back-to-back nights. It’s been a big TV week for me and it’s only Wednesday (still need to catch up on Downton). I told you all yesterday about my Bachelor blog, secondary embarrassment, and today I’m hitting it over here on my FAVE show (yes, I know it’s aimed at like 15 year old girls, I don’t care, this shiz is good) Pretty Little Liars.

Not only is this show AH MAZ ING (a perfect combo of mystery, high school drama, scandal and suspense) but the clothes are equally fab. Not sure what high school girls dress like this (if you do, props to you) but Hannah, Aria, Spencer and Emily have the best style of any high school girls on TV (Gossip Girl is off the air may I remind you before you admonish me).

Last night, I was especially digging Hannah (my personal favorite) and her polka-dot ensemble. Favorite character + favorite print = a Lou What Wear no-brainer. Once again, Dana at Possessionista spotted this number at Anthropologie and sent out a heads up before the show even aired. But alas, now it’s sold out.

Seriously though, if you want to snag the exact styles these gals were wearing – you gotsta do it quick! Follow Possessionista or Shop Your TV for the exact matches.

Get Hannah’s Look:

The original Anthropologie dress is a little long but belted it can be adjusted to look shorter. I think the Micheal Kors number below is the most similar in style. She kept it modern with a sheer black coat, ALDO black & white wedges (get them here on sale for $29.99) and a graphic bag. Not gonna lie, I don’t love the bag but otherwise – I dig everything about this.

p.s. – If you were digging Spencer’s look, both the skirt and top are sold out. But I’m sure recreating it would be too hard. Maybe I’ll give it a go in a future style post.
