Derby Dress of the Day: For the Third Floor Clubhouse

Mar 29, 2017

It’s FINALLY here! I finally got my s**t together and am kicking off the Derby Dress of the Day series. I’m sorry for the late start, I’ve been meaning to start these for about a week but lacked a little of the inspiration. Now we’re off and you can bet you’ll be able to find one of these here every day until Derby week.

Just to start off, if it’s your first Derby season with me – I love love love it. The whole aim of this series is to give you TONS of dress options along with tips on where to wear them. If you’ve been to the track, then you’ve no doubt seen someone there who didn’t have a friend give her the tip to avoid stilettos for a day in the paddock or that girl who went all out only to have it ruined in the infield. So that’s what we’re here trying to avoid. I’m also here to help you hunt down the perfect dress that you won’t see on every girl at the track. So if you’re looking for something, drop me a note – danielle@louwhatwear.com – and I’ll join you in your search.

First up is a simple little two piece number perfect for an outdoor box but just dressy enough for the Third Floor Clubhouse. Two piece sets can be a little off-putting at first but this tiny sliver of midriff plus the full, midi skirt keep it looking chic. My favorite thing about wearing white for Derby is the huge liberty it gives you when picking a hat. You can DO ANYTHING. Wear your favorite color, do a huge statement hat, go for a bright, colorful mix. Seriously, anything. I wore white a couple years ago and went with a big, bright fascinator.

Don’t forget that you can still save 15% on any Headcandi piece from now until March 31 with code LOUWHATWEAR. Some of my favorite bright and bold pieces are below.

    Hi!
I was wondering if you have ever done a post that is like a rundown of derby day or weekend? I am headed down from Boston for my first Derby this year and am so excited! I stumbled upon your blog and there is SO much great outfit inspiration but wonder if you have ever addressed kind of what to expect from the day – like any good food vendors, advice for if it rains, good bars to stop in over the weekend and stuff like that? Just curious if you had and I couldn’t find it on your site. Thanks!! Katie

      Hi Katie –
First off, I am SO excited for you to come to Derby. You will LOVE it! So funny that you ask that because I am actually working on a post about it now! So no, there isn’t anything up there right now but I can promise there will be something in the next couple weeks – so make sure to stop back by and I’ll have you covered!

I do have this post on what to pack in your purse though that could give you some tips until I get the full rundown up! https://louwhatwear.com/kentucky-derby-derby-day-purse-essentials/
