I absolutely love white for Derby. It’s one of the few occasions you can wear a white sundress unless you’re a bride to be (and then lucky you, you’ve got a summer full of parties you can wear white to). It’s so fresh and is the perfect blank canvas for bright shoes and an over the top hat.
The only thing about wearing a white dress is that you have to be careful when you wear one to Derby or Oaks (for sure Oaks, those Lillies for the Fillies drinks are bright pink…and strong), because you don’t want to get a bright red cocktail spilled on it. So my recommendation is to avoid white if you’re in the paddock – too many people will bump into you which means way too many chances to get spilled on.
If you go with white, pair it with a bright fun shoe. I love these options from ZARA (i’m in the midst of a ZARA shoe obsession). If you’re anti high-heel (I know a lot of people are), these leopard flat sandals are adorable. I’d add a bright pink, yellow or blue hat.
What do you think about white at Derby?
