Fridays are the best, right?
I mean I can’t imagine a person who doesn’t like Fridays (unless maybe you work exclusively on the weekends and then they must elicit the Sunday Scaries), work is winding down and the weekend (read: cocktails and sleeping in) is right at your fingertips.
For me, though, Fridays are the only day of the week I have entirely to myself (at least most of the time). Since having Reese, I’ve worked from home, allowing me to, at least momentarily, experience the joy of a clean and quiet house. It is a little slice of heaven even if it is still filled with client emails, laundry and intermittent errands.
At the beginning of the year, I decided it was time to really enjoy the quiet – even if only for an hour before jumping into my day. Rather than trying to rush to a workout class or get right into emails, I take a little time to myself before diving into the madness. So now, after dropping off the kids at the crack of dawn (7:30 drop-off time is so early), I head home, make myself a cup of coffee and settle into either do a little reading or, more often than not, catch up on a show. Let’s be honest – it’s usually a show.
*** Quick side note on the TV front: I am almost finished with Netflix’s Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events and it’s a really fun watch. It has a kind of Pleasantville meets Wes Anderson look and it’s a mix of mystery and dry humor. Neil Patrick Harris is great (but also gross – you’ll get it when you watch) in it and the kids who star are wonderful. Plus there are a lot of cameos from unexpected actors – I won’t spoil anything but you’ll be pleasantly surprised. It’s not serious or intense so you don’t feel like you have to binge all eight at once but I’ve enjoyed watching it play out. So if you’re looking for a new show… I recommend. ***
It’s been a nice way to get my mind off things for a little bit before tackling the day. Plus there is a certain level of joy that I get from sitting in alone in my clean house with no expectations to do anything. I’m also trying to do a better job of eating breakfast in the mornings. Most days of the week, it’s something on the go but when I’m at home it’s nice to have something you need a utensil for instead of whatever fruit/nut bar is the cabinet.
Noosa Yoghurt recently sent over some of their new tart & sweet flavors to try and I am in love with the strawberry & hibiscus (actually am eating it now while working on this post). I had only tried the honey flavor before but now this one may be my go-to. This is super random too but I like how they come in a container with a resealable lid since sometimes I can get pulled away from what I’d like to be doing, watch shows, to something I’d rather not, hop on a quick conference call (are they ever quick?). I can close it up and save it for later or for a lunch treat (since they are pretty big you can squeak out two servings if you’re not super hungry).
And if you’re on the real food, super healthy kick (I try but am only mildly successful) Noosa has you covered since it’s all good stuff and no GMO’s or artificial sweeteners. Want to try out the new flavors (the pear & cardamom one is delish too)? Save a little by downloading this coupon.
