You all might not know this about me, but I am crazy competitive. I will turn anything into a competition. Seriously, game night can get intense around my house and no kid is winning just because they’re young.
But as you get older, there are way less opportunities to get your competitive juices flowing. A few years ago, some friends and I decided to try our hands at tennis.
Mostly it was a way to get together every week and get a little exercise during the summer.. But for me, it’s been a great way to get out that urge for competition, even if I’m still working on actually being good. With working out, you can always make an excuse to not go. Work can get in the way or things can come up with family but when you have an actual match to play, when someone else is depending on you to show up, it’s a lot harder to bail. And I’m not going to lie, like with any sport, you have to get all the gear. Any excuse for a new outfit, you know?
Beyond that, it’s just been fun to get outside, to hang out with friends and to be part of a team again. Even if it is a million degrees outside and I am chugging bottles of evian® like my life depends on it. evian® is packed with naturally occurring electrolytes that are naturally present beginning at the water source. I don’t think I’m speaking out of turn to say that my team isn’t going to win a championship anytime soon, but we probably have the most fun of any 2.5 tennis team around. I mean, we aren’t going to be making the tour ever but you’d think it’s a possibility if you played in some of these games.
Speaking of the tour, since starting to play I’ve found myself watching a lot more tennis on TV. Not just the major matches but the random weekday ones that you can put on in the background while working. You guys, I’ve gotten seriously into it. So much so that now I want to go to a big tournament.
Maybe this summer I’ll make it up to Cincinnati for the Western & Southern Open or even better, I’m keeping my fingers crossed to win the contest evian is doing this summer at Kroger where you can win two tickets and a trip to New York for the US Open Finals.
