Shopping {Your Closet}: American Summer Staples

Jul 3, 2013

I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s pretty psyched for the 4th of July AND the four day weekend (hopefully you have a four day weekend too!). I think it ranks up there with Thanksgiving as one of those perfect holidays for celebrating with friends & family. No pressure of buying gifts just having fun and enjoying a day off.

I love a good Fourth of July style post but rather than show you a bunch of stuff you’d have to run out and buy, I thought I’d throw together some patriotic looks that you can easily assemble from similar items you may have hidden in your closet or drawers.

You don’t need to be decked out in flags to show your spirit, just grab some red, white and blue basics and mix them together to show your American pride.

american summer staples
Navy Polka Dot Bikini Top | Red Tie Bikini Bottoms
Eyelet Top | Levi’s Skinny Jeans
(p.s. – I have these and LOVE them. Bonus they are on sale for $19 now)

Red & White Stripe Tank | White Shorts
* Heading to the pool? Grab a navy blue top, better yet make it a polka dot one, and pair it with simple red bottoms. If you already have the top (or bottoms) but are missing the other touch of red or blue – hit up target or Old Navy and you’ll find a simple basic on the cheap.

* Is there anything more American than jeans and a white tee? Maybe Levi’s and a white tee. I love a white eyelet or peasant top to dress the look up a tiny bit while staying cool. Perfect for a backyard bbq or to watch fireworks.

* More than likely you have a stripe top and a pair of white shorts in your wardrobe. Pair them for a perfectly patriotic look. I love this red tank but you could easily do a blue stripe tee with it. Just add a blue or red accessory to complete the look.

Want more American style? Head over to <let it be beautiful> where I’m guest posting and filling in for Ashlyn today with some more of my 4th favorites.
