Sleeping Better Made Simple

Jan 18, 2019

If there’s one thing I want to master in this life, it’s sleeping better.

I mean, there’s a lot I want to accomplish but there’s not much more satisfying than waking up well rested. They should bottle that feeling and sell it. I’d buy it. Until someone figures that out I’m willing to try just about anything.

That was why I was very intrigued when Under Armour sent me a jumpsuit from their new line of Athlete Recovery Sleepwear that is made to help you recover from your workouts faster and get more zzz’s. Yes please. At first I wasn’t sure about the jumpsuit – what if you have to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night? – but it’s super easy to get on and off. It’s crazy soft and I can’t say 100% that it’s helping me recover faster but I have been doing a new workout (I’ve gone almost every day of the new year) and when I get out of bed, I am significantly less sore than when I went to bed.

The secret ingredient is Celliant in the fabric which is supposed to increase circulation, leading to faster recovery. I mean, it’s worth a try right? It’s really cozy and cute enough to wear around the house. I wore it on New Year’s Day – along with their soft and comfortable enough to wear all day seamless bra – under my gravity blanket because, like I said, I’ll try anything to get some good relaxation in.

The bundle of goodies they sent along with the sleepwear was a treasure trove of things to help with both being active and on-the-go, and winding down. These AfterShokz Trekz Air  have been my go-to since getting a pair to try out last year. If you see me at the gym, I’m wearing these. What I love about them is that they DON’T go in your ears. They rest on the outside of your ears but you don’t lose sound quality because of the technology that transmits through bone conduction (I don’t understand it but I know it works). I like it because you don’t have to continuously mess with the ear buds or worry about them falling out.

The latest pair is lighter and they updated the style so they stay in place even better. I never had an issue with the fit since they rested on my pony tail but I guess if you didn’t have one, it may have been tougher for them to stay put while running. Seriously I love these and have recommended them to a ton of friends over the last year.

Normally I only wear headphones for workouts but lately I’ve been using the Calm app (trying to be so zen) and I’ll through these on to get in a quick zen sesh at the office or when I’m walking to and from my car. All I need is a couple minutes to help clear my head and reset.

Next up is this Tiger Balm Patch and Balm. The balm immediately took me back. My grandpa used to keep tubs of the balm next to his chair and would also use it on his hands. The smell always reminds me of him. But don’t think it’s just an old man thing. Cause while he was clearly onto something, this stuff is legit.

I’ve used both on my shoulders because they get SO tight especially when I go too long in between acupuncture sessions. It’s really good for muscle relief. I’ve been keeping it on my bedside table and using a little before bed.

Last but not least, these CELSIUS On-The-Go Powder Sticks are a welcome change from what we call at my house, “fresh water.” It’s basically just water with the flavor that my kids are obsessed with. Hey, if it makes them drink their water I’m cool with it. These CELSIUS ones are like fresh water for grown-ups.

They give you a boost of healthy energy and has as much caffeine as about two cups of coffee. So it’s an instant jump start. I’ve been making it before bed in my GIANT water bottle so that I have it ready when I wake up in the morning. I’ve been focused on drinking more water and I feel like I get a head start when I chug this in the AM.

All in all, my sleep has seriously improved the past few weeks. I think getting into a routine has helped immensely alongside these new favorites. I’d definitely recommend trying these out and download the Calm app too. It sets a good tone for a much more relaxing sleep space.
