staying positive

Jun 29, 2020

Did anyone else feel like last week was five days of Mondays? I couldn’t catch up for the life of me and each day I felt like I got more and more bogged down. That’s why I only managed to log one post over here. It was just one of those weeks.

Last week, the bottom dropped out for me. Throughout quarantine and everything associated with COVID, I’ve tried to stay positive and look at the bright side.  At work, we were lucky enough to secure a PPP loan and that really helped with my outlook on things. But last week, things bottomed out. We’re feeling the economic effects of this whole situation and it has been the hardest thing I’ve dealt with from a professional standpoint. Lemonade will be fine and make it through this whole thing but it’s not all rainbows and unicorns. We are legitimately making lemonade out of lemons as we speak. Send sugar.

Obviously what we’re dealing with is small compared to everything else happening in the world right now but when you add it on top, it weighs on you. I want to be doing more to help others, to further promote Black-owned businesses, to get involved in political action and movements. But I also need to keep my own lights on to make that happen. I’m not making excuses and there’s no solution here, but if you feel similar, just know that you’re not alone. My thought on the whole thing is that when you feel overwhelmed handle what’s in front of you first, then as it subsides you’ll be ready to get back into the hard stuff. This week I’m committed to getting back on track both on a personal and professional stand-point. Starting with some pitching around the two Black-owned businesses/organizations we’re trying to help – Localy Hand Sanitizer and the Jamon Brown Foundation.

Hoping I’ll be able to share good news on that front soon. In the mean time, I’m trying to stay positive, stay smiling and keep my eye on keeping things rolling on the small biz side.

And yes, I know this is an outfit post but it’s featuring a bunch of pieces that have been in heavy rotation lately and since they all make me smile when I wear them, figured now was as good a time as any to post.
