It’s been a little while since I’ve shared some local love and with Derby season (and hopefully warmer temperatures) about to kick into high gear, I was excited to get out of the house to check out the new offerings at Colonial Designs. Last week, the local shop known for its amazingly curated collection of home goods and fabulous floral arrangements began carrying clothing and accessories. To celebrate the addition of apparel, the shop had a little grand opening party and gave me a sneak peek at the clothes before the shopping got underway.
If you’ve shied away from Colonial Designs home wares in the past because of the prices, throw those fears aside. The clothes, accessories and jewelry are all incredibly reasonably priced – think $20-$30 for a statement necklace, $40-$60 for a printed tunic and $80-$120 for a great summer party dress – and are perfectly in line with the stores aesthetic. You’ll find lots of bright prints, preppy summer sundresses and classics with a twist (I was OBSESSED with a simple pair of lace shorts that would be perfect for summer). There’s just the right amount of stuff too – not too much to get overwhelmed but plenty of options. You also don’t have to worry about being seen at the pool or a wedding in the same top or dress – they are only carrying a limited quantity in each item to make sure you don’t have twins running around all over town.
The gals at Colonial did a really great job with their first round of merchandise and I’m looking forward to seeing what comes in as Derby and summer edge closer. Mostly I just snapped pictures and ogled the clothes but I did end up snagging a comfy stripe, super long racer-back tank that I’ll be able to wear as I edge closer to the end of this 10-month journey and wear long afterwards over bathing suits or paired with white jeans.
Definitely stop by if you’re in the St. Matthews area and tell ’em Lou What Wear sent you!
The lovely team of Colonial Designs
Julie Dayton and Katie Gandolfo
Julie’s adorable ruffled black dress is available at Colonial; loved Katie’s layers and that awesome necklace. Megan Kute and Caitlin Brey bundled up in leather; Courtney Nassau looking simple, comfy and chic (my favorite combo) in a silk baseball team and flares (!!!)
Colonial Designs is located at 3712 Lexington Road, St. Matthews 40207
What a cute boutique! I’ve never been to Colonial Designs but I’ll need to check it out soon. Warm weather can’t come soon enough!
