The Salvation Army Mascot Challenge

Dec 6, 2011

First off, you may have noticed that I have been a little behind in my blogging game the last couple weeks. I’ve been in the process of an exciting job transition and unfortunately, Lou What Wear hasn’t gotten all of the TLC it deserves.

Second, today’s post isn’t really “Style Spotting” traditionally speaking. I’ve tried to use it as a place where I’ve spotted amazing Louisvillians (and the occasional visitor) rocking fab outfits. Well, I consider the people below to fit both criteria but not in a way you’d expect.

For the past couple years I’ve had the privilege of being a member of The Salvation Army (Louisville) advisory board. During that time, I’ve focused most of my energy helping promote their Red Kettle Campaign (you know, the people you see outside the grocery standing next to a red pot ringing a bell). So in this post I wanted to share some shots of a project I’ve been working on the past year called the Mascot Challenge. Basically, we asked a bunch of local mascots to come out and ring the bell for a good cause. Tons of great people stepped up to rock their awesome mascot costumes. I may have even gotten into the action by sporting the Early Times Mint Julep get-up.

The Salvation Army is still looking for volunteers to fill two-hour shifts through Christmas Eve. If you’re interested, just click here and pick a time. I’d encourage you to sport your fiercest holiday outfit and ring your little heart out.

If not, just enjoy these local mascots – they’re sure to bring a smile to your face!

The Comfy Cow, Earl E. Times (that’s me!) and Churchill Charlie

Texas Roadhouse’s Andy Armadillo

Tapper from The Louisville Water Co.

The Comfy Cow did two shifts!!!

Mr. Papa Slice from Papa Johns

Snow Fox from WDRB Fox 41

Don’t act like that didn’t make you smile.

p.s. – Buddy the Bat and Gus & Peggy Pegasus also came out to ring but aren’t pictured… yet.

If you’re interested in donating to the Red Kettle Campaign which helps fund The Salvation Army’s efforts to help Louisville’s neediest citizens, you can make a donation here.
