Tis the season for the summer shower. Not necessarily the ones courtesy of Mother Nature (although tend to rear their ugly heads at the most inopportune times) but the ones that fly into your mailbox. Baby and wedding showers are the one, two punch but there’s also bridal luncheons, rehearsal dinners, sip n sees (if you’re in a particularly southern area) and other ladylike gatherings that require a great sundress – ones that hit the mark of being cute, stand out from the crowd and are appropriate (i.e. – long enough, not too low cut or super tight).
A couple weeks back I took an extended lunch break to check out the new Draper James store at The Summit at Fritz Farm and do a little shopping. While sipping on a little lemonade, I fell for this simple little umbrella sundress. The timing couldn’t have been better since I had absolutely no idea what I was going to wear to a rehearsal dinner the next day. It saved the day and now I’ve circled a couple more days on the calendar when I’ll be breaking it out.
Draper James Umbrella Sundress
Kate Spade Envelope Clutch (old) | J.Crew Lemon Keychain
INC Red Block Heels | J.Crew Tassel Earrings
I love the fit and flare shape personally since it flatters my best attributes (my top half) while camouflaging my less than beach body worthy areas (aka mid-section, hip, thighs). Plus this one is just the right length – not too short but not too dowdy. Draper James fits pretty true to size from my experience, so you can go with your normal size without worrying. And since all their dresses are perfect for southern soirees, I’ve rounded up a five more options that fit the bill.
