Kentucky Derby Style: Seersucker Shift – Kentucky Derby Vineyard Vines Collection

Apr 22, 2019

Back at it on a Monday. Less than two weeks until Derby so it’s crunch time when it comes to getting your looks together. Don’t feel bad if you’re behind though, I JUST ordered a bunch of dress options for Derby over the weekend and may end up going for more if those don’t work. Yes, I know I am a crazy person.

If you’re on the hunt for a hat or fascinator, I have another great millinery to share – Jill Courtemanche (read more about her in a feature I did on her here). This will be my third year styling up pieces for Jill and every year, there’s always one that’s my hands down favorite. Last year it was this gingham number and this year, it’s this bright pink fascinator with a more British/royal feel.

It adds a more polished feel to this Kentucky Derby collection seersucker dress from Vineyard Vines. You all, every year I think Vineyard Vines does a seersucker dress for Derby but this year’s is the best one yet. I love that they added the reversible sash with their Derby roses print (stay tuned for more in that print). It’s also more fitted that some of their shift dresses with I love. I’m sure I’ll wear it all summer with sandals or white sneakers.

This fascinator was perfect with the print pink in the sash and I added these big, bright earrings from Work the Metal (the best spot for last minute accessories) to be even more extra because… Derby, duh.

I love all the Vineyard Vines Derby Collection pieces but my tip for wearing one to the track is to make sure to give it your own spin. Don’t just settle for a simple fascinator or straw hat. If nothing else, add some feathers or a big sash to the hat. That way, if you spot someone else in the same dress (and you will), you will look totally different. Pair it with bright heels or add bold accessories. Anything to make it feel more unique and share your own personal style.

The navy dress from the collection is the perfect one to go over-the-top with since it’s a solid color piece. That being said, I love the signature prints so have fun with it – just be sure to add your own touch to it.

My favorite part of the VV Derby line though, is the piece for the guys (again, stay tuned for Drew’s blog debut). Especially the pocket squares, ties and bowties. It’s an easy way to add some Derby flair to even the most conservative dressers’ look.
