When you want to wear a shirt dress, but you’re too tall.

Oct 31, 2017

I’ve decided to switch up my post titles to just put it all out there. So that’s what you’re getting today.

I’m not even that tall (I’m 5’8″ for the record) but I run into my fair share of items that are way too short for me to get away with wearing in public. Especially when I’m with my kids and will inevitably have to pick them up. That’s really the true test of every item in my closet: can I wear it while lifting up a small child?

So when I picked up this one at Dress & Dwell, I clearly forgot to ask myself that because the first time I put it on at home, I realized quickly that it was too short. Not WAY too short but all it would take was a stray breeze or lifting up Reese for things to get dicey. But I wasn’t willing to give up on this one so easily.  It’s super comfy and crazy soft, plus I love the color so back to the drawing board I went and here’s what we’re working with.

Clearly it’s nothing groundbreaking but I’m really into dusters and long jackets these days so this fit in perfectly with that. Now I’m looking at my other long button-downs with fresh eyes to give them some new life. Oh and I’m not totally giving up on this as a dress just yet. I’m thinking I may be able to get away with it by pairing it with knee-high boots. I’ll see how that goes and report back.
