Hiding Out in Plain Sight

Apr 27, 2017

Taking a quick break from all the Derby Madness, even though that’s the last thing I want to do right now. That’s a  little problematic since life’s responsibilities aren’t waiting for the races to be over. But, man, I wish they would. All I want to do right now is help people pick out Derby hats, make Mint Julep plans and generally get lost in my favorite week of the year.

Do you all ever just want to run away from your responsibilities? Hopefully I’m not the only one who gets in over their head and then wants to bury their head in the sand. Lately, life has been getting a bit of the best of me on all fronts. (I plan on sharing more in detail soon but I don’t want to throw a damper on the most wonderful time of the year – plus I’m not quite ready to go into all of it.) But for every hard knock, there’s been so much good stuff so I’ve made a concerted effort to focus on the latter. That’s not always easy.

Sometimes I feel like I’m hiding out in plain sight. Putting on a smile to camouflage the resting bitch face (well, as much as possible). Saying yes to things when all I want to do is set up camp on my couch. And taking my kids here, there and everywhere when they are making life as loud and messy as possible. But when people say, ‘fake it til you make it,’ they were on to something because I think half the battle is showing up. Once I get the ball in motion, it’s a lot easier to act the part.

And focusing on the fun – and there’s a lot of it happening right now – really helps. That and cocktails. Cocktails are a life saver. 🙂

Thanks Josh – I really appreciate, more than you know! It’s hard sometimes to keep it all together. You certainly make it look good.
