Derby Dress of the Day: For the Jockey Club Suites

With Derby sneaking up on us, there isn’t a ton of time left to order a dress online. So today, I’ve picked my favorite of Shopbop’s new arrivals and compiled a list of some others I love that are available in a variety of sizes right now (such a pain to click on one and see they have only one size left).

My pal and coworker Lynsey has been on the hunt for a yellow dress and I finally found her one that is in stock in her size! I loved it so much that I had to make it the dress of the day. And since she’s heading to the Jockey Club Suites for Oaks, I figured this one would fit there. It’s practically perfect for any area of the track (you may want to go a little swankier for Millionaire’s Row) and you could do so much with hat options. I’d love it with an all white/cream fascinator  but you could go for a bold, wide brim hat in any number of colors. My pick would be navy (but my pick is always navy).

Check out the slideshow below with some other options that you can order now and have it time for Derby!

p.s. – I’ve been seeing a lot of searches for what to wear to some of the parties and galas on Friday night so I’m going to work on some of my party picks in the next couple days!

Outfit Post: A Milly Moment * Part I

So yesterday was the first day of Spring but judging from the temperatures outside, I’m not buying it.

That being said, with the first day of Spring comes the official countdown to the Kentucky Derby. We’re down to 44 days until the most exciting two minutes in sports so it’s definitely time to start thinking about what to wear to the races. I’ve got a few Derby style posts up my sleeve but after putting on this Milly floral number, I’ve already started planning my Derby outfit around it.

Obviously, these pictures had to be saved for inside since it is freaking freezing out now but I’m hoping for a bright, sunny day in May to wear this with a fun fascinator – I’m thinking something with purple feathers for sure.

Shopping: Mix & Match Brights

For once, we’ve got a sunny day around here and I couldn’t be happier to soak up a little sun.

It’s also got me hoping that Spring will actually show its face soon (fingers crossed). I, for one, am pretty bored with my winter clothes and can’t wait to break out some brighter colors.

For my latest Target Style post, they asked us to create some looks using three bright (and big) colors for Spring – yellow, aqua and coral. Some people may be daunted by these bright colors but I think they pair perfectly with basics already in your closet.

I pulled together some of my favorite Target finds in both brights and basics for work and play. The best part about these options is that they don’t have to be relegated to one section of the closet – you can break all of these out for work or play. I’ve put together my pairings below but I can imagine pairing both #6 and #9 with black or navy pants and white heels. Or just throwing on a gray tee with #4 and #10.

mix & match

Want some other mix & match options? Try #1 and #8 for a more casual look. Go with #3 and #10 for a little less color or #9 and #4 for a little more color. Swap out #5 for #11 to add a little edge after work. And if you’re loving all the aqua, pair #6 and #10 for the full monochromatic look.

It’s Time for Springtime.

Outfit Post: Neon Sunset

Okay so I hope I didn’t oversell today’s post. Cause in terms of post goodness, it’s just a little happy.

And by little happy I mean pics of one of my vacation ‘fits taken on my iPhone by my husband who may or may not have been drinking a cocktail simultaneously.

I have a special place in my heart for neon lace. I attempted to DIY one last summer but couldn’t find the perfect skirt. Thankfully on a last minute stop at Forever 21 before this trip, I found this one. I’m planning on making it a spring/summer staple AND when neon lace skirts inevitably go out of style, I may just dye it black and keep it in rotation.
