Deck the Halls: What to Buy Now to Prep for the Holidays

Nov 12, 2019

For the first time in forever, I feel like I should be getting in the holiday spirit a little early. Maybe it’s because this year has been full of bad news (in the media, not to me personally) and we all are in the need of some cheer but it seems like we’re skipping ahead faster than normal.

And don’t get me wrong I LOVE THANKSGIVING. It is legit my favorite holiday: eating, no presents, not religion based so everyone celebrates, four-day weekend, the majority of people are off work… I could go on. I hate the idea of “skipping” it but I do feel ready to get in the Christmas spirit. It doesn’t help that we need a new Christmas tree, so I’ve been on the hunt for one a little early. That has led me down the decor rabbit hole that you’ll find below.

Also, my girls are crazy about Christmas and Reese is on a SERIOUS mission to find the perfect holiday dress for his Christmas program. So she’s been driving hounding me to order her something festive so she can show out for that kindergarten show. Don’t get me started.

Anyways, since I like sharing what I’ve been hunting for, since I assume I’m not the only one, here’s some of those early buys that have been on my radar. Hot tip for the frazzled moms of little ones: get an advent calendar. My kids are obsessed and it helps keep them patient during the countdown to Christmas. But when Drew was little, I didn’t remember to get it until like five days into December. So order one now so you’re ready to go on the first.

1. All Target Christmas Trees are 20% off
2. Old Navy Christmas PJs – Come in a bunch of patterns/colors
3. J.Crew Holiday Party Dresses – 35% off today
4. Vineyard Vines Holiday Collection – Love their shirts for boys
5. Target Full Tree Holiday Collections – Everything you need to decorate in one box.
6. Hearth & Hand Wreath
7. Pottery Barn Kids Advent Calendars – On Sale Now!
8. Letters to Santa Box | 9. Holiday Signs
10. Buddy the Elf Doormat – More Sayings Available

Christmas Trees: Totally into how you can buy all the things for your tree with one kit. Target has these in a bunch of styles that are a super easy way to get your tree started or to get a fresh look.

PJs: Even if you’re not into all matching pjs (I’m personally not into all matching, I like coordinating though), now’s the time to buy them. Old Navy has tons of options. I love Gap for kids ones and Nordstrom has some really cute, simple sets.

Holiday Dresses: I’m normally the type of person to order something last minute before I need it (basically how I live my life) but it’s not as easy with kids clothes as it is with stuff for myself. Everything I love ends up being sold out, so this year I’m shopping early to make sure I’m not stuck with the leftovers. I want this J.Crew dress for myself. Vineyard Vines also has lots of options that coordinate easily.

Decor + Doormats:  Like I said, I’m a Last-minute Lucy but trying to help you all avoid it. When it comes to advent calendars, Santa Bags, wreaths and more, you’ll want to order sooner rather than later to snag the deals and grab things before they’re sold out. Lastly,  I love this doormat and this company is legit. They custom made the one for our office (“What are you doing here without Dorinda!?”) so if you have a favorite holiday quote, she can make one special for you.
