Flying South: Packing for a Winter Getaway

Jan 25, 2018

Words cannot express my excitement for not one but TWO adult only getaways I have planned in February. The thought of just going to the airport alone is enough to make me giddy, let alone the thought of enjoying a couple days without having to cater to my children’s every immediate need. It is going to be glorious.

First up, I’m heading to Sea Island, Georgia for a work getaway with Lynsey, my partner at Lemonade, to The Southern C Summit. It will be just the right mix of work and relaxation that I need to recharge my batteries, get re-energized and brainstorm new directions for both the business and the blog. This will be my second time attending and I’m really looking forward to reconnecting with friends I met last year but mostly I can’t wait to sleep in a hotel bed.

Then the following week, Drew and I are heading to Mexico on his annual work trip. I cannot wait. If shopping is any indication of my hype level I’ve already bought four, maybe five, bathing suits. I mean, let’s be real though, only two are likely to fit. But just the act of scrolling through models in bathing suits on the beach makes me happy. Bring on all the warm weather.

These trips are particularly well-timed, giving me the excuse to shop for spring clothes when it’s still frigid here. It’s the jump start on the season that I know can be particularly annoying if you’re not going anywhere (I get it, feel free to shoot me dirty looks through the internet – I’d be doing the same thing). But the pieces I end up buying now usually end up in heavy rotation all the way through August. Or at least that’s how I justify it.

Anyways, I thought I’d pull together some of my favorite spring finds that I’ve come across during my late night shopping scrolls. If you have spring break plans, it’s a good idea to pick out a suit now before the rush. That way you get the pick of the litter and don’t have to hunt down sizes at the last minute.

Let’s Go Swimming

Mara Hoffman Lydia Gingham Suit

This is one of the suits I splurged on – the rest are from SheIN, so who knows how those will turn out to be. This one was love at first site. I even did that thing where you walk away from it and tell yourself you won’t buy it unless you can’t stop thinking about it. I looked online for days but never found another suit I liked half as much, so I splurged. It hasn’t come yet so who knows if it will fit. I’ll keep you posted.

 Graphic Tees

I love a good graphic or stripe tee because you can wear it a million and one ways. Under a blazer with heels for a dressy-casual vibe. Paired with a pleated skirt and sneakers. Simple as it gets with classic denim. I could go on. J.Crew has so many cute ones right now. This Salut one fits with the red, white and navy color palette and the motto I’m going for with these trips.

Statement Earrings

Nothing like a fun earring to make any look a little more fun. Basically, it’s the cheap way to make a simple outfit less basic. Have a cute black dress, add bright, bold earrings and BAM! Your outfit instantly feels fresher.

ETCETERA

Here’s a little mix of everything else that’s catching my eye right now. Denim shorts, breezy dresses, simple slides. Basically if it’s built for warm weather, I wish it was in my closet.
