Because No Matter Your Age, Bath Time is the Best Time

Sep 3, 2019

This post has been sponsored by Johnson’s®. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

If you have kids and are anything like me, your day is broken into two shifts. The work day and then the second shift at home. Every day before I head out of the office, I take a deep breath and get ready for the rat race of pick-ups, activities, dinner, bath and bed. It’s a full sprint from 5 pm to 8 pm (on a good day, sometimes it can go even later). It’s easily the most hectic part of the day, especially now that Drew has more activities than anyone should (yes, I know this is my own doing and I question myself daily on what I’ve gotten myself into).

Most of the time, we’re just running around from one thing to the next—but there is one activity where I get to spend a couple minutes with my kids without the distraction of phones, TV and to-dos: bath time.

It’s always been one of my favorite parts of the routine. Most of the time, it’s the only time of the day when I can get more than a one-word answer on the details of their day. Something about the close proximity, lack of distractions, and random bath toys always makes for some memorable—and sometimes hilarious—moments. Pretty sure all of my favorite videos of the kids have revolved around this time of day. I mean, I wish I got to take a bath every day. It’s easily my favorite before-bed routine, so no surprise I enjoy it with the kids.

So when I was asked to try out a new line of JOHNSON’S® Shiny & Soft Shampoo & Conditioning Spray, JOHNSON’S® Clean & Fresh Conditioning Spray and JOHNSON’S® Clean & Fresh Shampoo & Body Wash, available at Target, we were in. Like so many people, JOHNSON’S® products have been a staple in our bath time routine since day one. I’m pretty sure the smell I equate with a baby is the smell of their lotion. It’s a mainstay in our bathroom but until now, we’ve just used their standard hair + body wash for the girls.

With all the time spent in the pool over the summer, I’ve noticed Reese’s fine hair can get a little dull and it needs a little more TLC. So this came at a great time (mostly so she can stop stealing my shampoo + conditioner).

And while this isn’t an issue in our house, I am really happy to see that this line includes options for kids of all ethnicities and hair types, since we all know after a certain point, one size does not fit all. It’s super important that there are options that are hypoallergenic, too; free from parabens, phthalates, and sulfates; are dye free. Even more important that they don’t cost a fortune.

We started using the JOHNSON’S® Shiny & Soft Shampoo & Conditioning Spray a couple weeks ago and the girls have loved it. First off, because it is pink. I mean, I know that’s a shallow reason to love it, but they were pretty excited to have something that looked like it was made for them. Most of the time the girls fight me tooth and nail about washing their hair (“You got water in my eyes!” “That hurts!”) but with this, they’ve started to do it on their own. Big bonus for me since now they can get their bath routine started without needing me every step of the way.

And while the shampoo has been great (and I’ve noticed a big difference, especially in Reese’s fine hair), the JOHNSON’S® Shiny & Soft Conditioning Spray is a game changer. I remember as a kid, my grandma would say to me “pain is beauty” when brushing out all the massive tangles in my hair. I always hated hearing that and even though I don’t say it to Blake and Reese, I always think of it when they are whining about how much it hurts to brush tangles out of their hair. Blake’s hair is curly, too, so the knots can be bad. The JOHNSON’S® Shiny & Soft Shampoo & Conditioning Spray has ended the tears that were regularly part of our bedtime routine.

The girls actually like brushing their hair now and even though they’re not super adept at spraying their own hair, they try as soon as they get out of the bath. It’s a welcome relief.

And while my son Drew is a little bit older, he has been trying out the JOHNSON’S® Clean & Fresh Shampoo & Body Wash—so far, so good. Anyone who knows him knows he is VERY particular about his hair, so this is a big stamp of approval on his part. It also smells a little different than the regular baby version, which makes them feel a little more grown up. This product will actually keep his hair clean & fresh all day with its Freshboost™ Fragrance.

Try the new Johnson’s® kids hair care products, available at your local Target. You can find it over in the baby section near the bath time and hair products so you may want to swing through there on your way around the store; I was fooled at first and looked for it by the baby gear.
