Remember when I said I was never getting a dog and then we did? Well, Red is officially my best friend. I am one of those people that takes their dog everywhere… okay, not really everywhere but he does come with me to the office every day. He’s also my number one snuggle buddy. He’s the best kind of companion. Always excited to see me, loves to cuddle up, likes going on long walks, helps clean the kitchen… oh and did I mention that he doesn’t talk or complain? Gah, love him so much.
We’re pretty much best friends but I think we still both have some learning to do before we could be on Amazon’s new show The Pack. It debuts today on Amazon Prime Video and looks like a “The Amazing Race” style adventure for pets and their owners. Any kind of travel show is a must-watch in our house (plus love shows I can watch with the kids), so when they reached out to partner to promote the show’s debut we were all in… well, Red didn’t really have a choice. But seriously, traveling across continents on an adventure with your pup (aka someone who won’t yell at you for getting the directions wrong)… yes please.
The show, hosted by Olympic gold medalist Lindsey Vonn and her pup Lucy, features twelve owner/pup teams as they travel and compete for a $750,000 grand prize. The winning team wins $500,000 along with $250,000 for the animal charity of their choice. To win, the teams have to work together and compete in challenges that test their strengths and weaknesses. It’s all aimed at seeing who has the strongest bond in the pack.
Me and Red are best buds but I don’t think we’re ready for this style of competition. He has a lot more tricks to learn and I need to figure out how to teach them to him. Especially since he mostly just wants to lay on the couch and have his nose scratched.
To celebrate the show’s debut, Amazon is hosting a Packed Weekend, a three-day event featuring all kinds of deals and experiences for you and your pup to enjoy together. Red and I got to try out some of the goodies in advance and he definitely had some favorites. In true Retriever fashion, he wanted to play fetch and couldn’t get enough of tug-o-war. Hoping it wears him out enough that he’s ready to chill on the couch later to watch the first episode. He’s one of those pups that loves watching animals on TV and Reese is grade A puppy obsessed, so I’m guessing this show becomes a weekly family favorite.
And if you were wondering how well the pups were treated along the race, there were a team of accredited veterinarians and certified dog experts that accompanied the group on the journey to make sure no one was pushed past their limit. In addition, the team at The Pack has already donated $250,000 to a variety of charities and animal rescue organizations in each country they filmed in as a way to pay it forward.
Don’t forget to head over to Amazon and add this to your watch list. I’m already excited to see all the cute pups competing… our favorite from the trailer is definitely Derby, the pup from Kentucky but they’re all pretty cute. Frankly I’m just jealous that all these pups got to travel the world and see so many cool places. Think Red and I could make it on Season 2?
