Should I Do a Capsule Wardrobe?

Aug 23, 2018

Lately I’ve been wondering if I should pair down my closet (even more than I did for my new closet – pics coming soon) and embrace the capsule wardrobe life. I’ve read all about how super successful people stick with a uniform, and while I totally get it, I’m not sure I could stick with it. That being said, I already kind of have a formula about getting dressed – mostly jeans, stripes, sneakers, repeat – but lately I’ve been getting somewhat bored with it. So maybe it’s not the best option for me.

So while I may not be able to pull off a 15 item capsule wardrobe, I do think I should do a better job of investing in quality pieces that I’ll love to death and wear season after season. Easier said than done especially when a tempting 50% off sale comes through. Old Navy, I can’t quit you.

Maybe I need to meet somewhere in the middle – building a wardrobe around a handful of key, classic, interchangeable pieces. Since it’s always easier for me to commit to something by sharing it over here, I’ve pulled together 15 items that everyone can build their own closet around. And potentially, create their own capsule wardrobe. Not sure if I can commit to that just yet but if you want to give it a go, I’ll pulled some links that can help you get started.

With each of these, you could easily be set for the whole season or really the whole year. Just add some color through accessories or pick up a couple more trendy pieces to mix and match. Add a knit sweater or two for fall. A classic coat for winter. Trench in the spring. Sandals and a sundress for summer.

I’m looking to up my game with each of these items so that the rest of my closet comes together much easier. Plus you can’t go wrong with stripes, a tee and sneakers. Who said I don’t have a uniform?
