Kentucky Derby Style: Geometric

When we launched this series, I talked about how obsessed I was (am, love it so much) with this Headcandi fascinator. And it is works just as perfectly with this geometric shift dress (that is under $50!) as it did with that bright romper.

This dress though is the cutest. The colors are so flattering and the shape is great for a busy day running around the race track. If you’ve got a seat, then grabbing a gray clutch like this one from Dandelion works perfectly. If you’re going to be standing most of the day, grab a bright crossbody bag to keep everything tucked away and you’re hands free (you know for Mint Juleps and betting tickets).

Kentucky Derby Style: Pink DVF for Oaks

Up until now I haven’t gotten in to the full Derby look action so I’m coming in quick  with a little Kentucky Oaks action. This DVF pretty pink option with a little black and white trim was one of the simplest dresses we had but also one of my favorites. The detailing paired perfectly with this black and gray Headcandi piece which was another favorite because of the height (love something with some height).

We’re still trying to nail down our Derby plans but unfortunately I have to sit out Oaks this year (boo work) so this look is as close as I’ll get to the Pink Out for Ladies Day at Churchill Downs. So if you’re going, be sure to bet on the fillies and have a lily for me.

Speaking of going to the track, I want to see your outfits for the races. Whether you’re going to Thurby (still not sure I can get on board with that nickname), Oaks or Derby, tag me on Instagram (@louwhatwear) in your pictures and I’ll include them in my post-Derby round up. Or if you just want to share a sneak peek of what you’re wearing, I wanna see it! Derby is my jam so I can’t get enough of all the fun looks.

Kentucky Derby Style: Bright Blue

Today’s look feels fancy to me. It may be because I feel like Lee – today’s friend/model – is fancy (she’s always on the best vacations) or it may be the Kenzie Kapp fascinator but I feel like this is a have tickets to the {Turf Club/Jockey Club Suites/5th Floor Clubhouse} fancy. Okay but not too fancy and definitely not stuffy but just like you should be hanging in a elite area of the track. It doesn’t hurt that this fascinator is beyond fabulous. I love the floral/feather pairing and again, anything with height is a friend of mine.

I’ve clearly been digging a lot of the more non-traditional Derby looks this year with lots of rompers and skirt combos and this crop combo is one of my favorites – maybe cause it looks like a dress here but can offer way more options. This Milly cropped tank could end up being one of the most versatile pieces in your closet. Wear it with high-waisted skirts, shorts or denim (would look so cute with dark flares). This skirt will also get lots of wear and could go just as easily with a tee and ankle boots as it would with heels and a great blouse for work. Clearly I’m all about stretching your buck when it comes to dropping coin on a Derby look!

If you’re on the hunt for a great dress definitely stop in to see the gals at Clodhoppers. I’ve bought many a Derby dress there and the gals are always honest about what works and what doesn’t. They’ve also got TONS of Milly options along with other great designers like Alice + Olivia, Trina Turk and more. Tell ‘em I sent you!

Gotta run because Derby madness at work is consuming my life. Happy Wednesday and remember only 24 days ’til Derby!
