If it’s gotta be Monday, it doesn’t hurt when it’s the last “work” Monday of the year. It’s the little things, right?
I spent this weekend trying to get festive but it’s a little tough when it feels like early spring instead of the last few days of fall. There was talk about trying to go downtown to the ice skating rink so the kiddos could see Santa but when you can go out in a short sleeve t-shirt, it seems a little ridiculous. No complaints other than the seriously lack of hot chocolate consumption. Anyone else having trouble feeling festive right now?
On that note, today’s outfit seems a little disingenuous but I promise it was a little chilly a week or so ago when I took these pictures. Our Bloggers Who Budget theme this month was holiday layers but with the weather we’re working with right now, layers are looking to be totally unnecessary. Earlier in the season, I splurged big time on this coat thinking I’d be breaking it out in no time. It hasn’t gotten much wear but I have thrown it over light layers like this stripe + plaid combo. I bought this sweater when I was pregnant with Reese – truthfully, I didn’t love it then but now it’s the perfect amount of slouch. It’s also not too heavy making it great for layering. Topped with this cozy scarf – it’s the easiest way to stay warm without a lot of bulk. As someone with broad shoulders, I can look like a linebacker with too many layers so sticking with a minimum number of thin pieces is best for me. This easy combo nails it. Plus by shopping my closet, it didn’t break the bank.
